calling all Sig P220 .45 owners.. questions on ammo that works!

Hello members and fellow gun owners... I decided to add a P220 to my collection recently..

I just took the gun to the range the other day and found that the .45 ammo I am using isn't fitting very well into the magazines... (Sellier & Bellot) FMJ 230gr. This is the basic range ammo of choice for me and has been for a while... When I told the range master about how I couldn't feed more than 3-4 bullets into the magazine before it got impossible to add more (it's an 8 round magazine here in CA).. He gave me a box of Federal .45 ammo an those worked fine...

Got home, tried some Federal Critical Defense hollow points (185gr), and they fit fine... then tried to feed the 230gr ammo, and it wouldn't go past 2-3 and would even jam up the magazine. There is a VERY minor hight difference between the two bullets I noticed..

My question is, is this a finicky gun in terms of ammo? What are you guys using and is there a way I can get it to take the S&B ammo I mainly use?

    Thanks in advance.

Never had a problem with any ammo. I've used exveything mentioned, plus alot of others including the freedom new production ammo.

Did you try different batches/lot numbers of the S&B? Perhaps you've got some that are out of spec.
    Sorry, not sorry.

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!

Mine is not finicky at all. I've never had any problems with any ammo. Are you having any issues with the gun itself? Or are you just having trouble loading the new magazines that came with the gun?

No the issues are with the magazines... looks like Im not alone... found a few things while doing searches... Gonna have to call Sig me thinks...

The comments section of this video shows some brands that work... maybe you guys are just lucky that the brand you use just happens to work..

I have some XTP 230grain reloads from freedom munitions and I can't even get one in the magazine.

I feed mine with Freedom Munitions, Federal & either PPU or PMC 230gr with no issues.

If S&B is the only brand that's giving you a problem, then maybe you got a bad batch?

No, there was another brand (Blazer 230gr FMJ) I tried that the gun shop threw in with the gun that also didn't work... plus, I have a ton of boxes of S&B from various different purchases times and they all don't work. All I can get to feed from the ammo I have with me is the 185gr hollow point, and those are noticeably shorter due to the shape of the bullet... these magazines are simply a tiny bit too short for some .45 ammo

wondering then if there are slightly different magazines out there? Makes no sense... I simply cannot feed the ammo into my magazines! WTF Sig?

P220 supermatch here. Have both 8 and 10 rd mags. Have used blazer brass, Fed AE, speer lawman, armscor, armscor usa, win white box and S&B.

Not one single issue. Could be your mag???

The mags when new have really tough springs. Have you tried a mag loader assist tool like the uplula?

I have numerous P220 platforms and they eat everything Ive thrown at them - flawlessly. For range I stick with WWB - although at Bass Pro you can get the Sig ammo pretty cheap.
