    Quick question about PPT

my has friend a rifle that is not registered to him and is not in the system. If he wanted to sell this gun in a PPT transfer, does he have the put the gun in his name first, then transfer it over? it is not a curio and relic.

Or can he go with the person, let the gun store know it is not registered or in the system, and do the paperwork from there.

Regular long guns are not registered in California. There is no "system" for them to be in.

For all the CA FFL knows is that the guy "has" a legal rifle, and he has to assume he got it by legal means, such as (moving to CA form out of state and bringing it in with him,) as there is no requirement for registration for long guns, not even when moving to CA form other states. So dude has it legally, then he can now PPT it through a CA FFL to anyone not prohibited.

CA is stupid. When I lived in Reno I bought most all my collection Face to face...

Does it differ for a pistol? Can someone sell a pistol that he just happens to "have". Only problem buying a gun from someone that just happens to "have" one is if its stolen or used in a crime. Then buyer is out gun and money.
