i keep my ammo in these:

costco usually sells them for around $8 each with a lid. if you can crack it, please tell me how. these have been damn near bullet proof for me.

i use white duct tape to mark what is inside.

Any round container wastes space. I see no need for airtight/watertight ammo storage. Stack in cases and boxes in the house. Reloads in plastic 50 round boxes. Always know what it is and easy to determine the quantity. The other thing with steel ammo cans or paint cans, is they take up as much room when they are empty as they do when full. At least some of the plastic storage bins nest when empty.

Stock up on ammo now. After the first of the year, buy ammo cans.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

50 cal cans for storage, 30 cal cans for transportation. You're good to go if you have a few of both.

No one else likes the 40MM cans? I just throw boxes of ammo right into them, mostly so it's easier to move.

My dad would be proud of you.

              but I'm not my dad.

Considering how much we have spent on ammo this year, spend just a little bit more on storage. To me it's like buying a high end car, and then putting cheap tires on it.

Having said that, as long as you have cleaned and dried out your containers well, I guess it would work.

Ammo cans when in the safe. I'm using those multi compartment zipper lunch boxes with the removable bin for taking ammo to the range. Doesn't scream gun owner walking round with them.

These are my favorite, they stack well and fit perfect in my closet. I also find that loaded to capacity are just light enough to move around.

They'll be in a cabinet that I have in my garage. Good enough?
Sure, it's good enough. Ammo is pretty hearty and will last a very long time in any number of storage situations.

That's a shame. People need to see more responsible gun owners in California.

No, not good enough unless you only have a few hundred rounds. Just leave them in the factory boxes if you are only storing a few hundred rounds of multiple calibers. When storing 1-2k+ rounds for 12+ calibers long-term then ammo cans for the win.
What is in the picture is a short range sesh...

I have 40mm cans(3-4) and a couple larger mil surplus cans but fill one with ammo and they get too heavy for my broken down back.
No I do not like them. I prefer 30cal cans to all of them now except for my 50bmg ammo.
If they work for you then great.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Personally, when I’m reloading, I prefer the square[ish] plastic peanut jars from Costco. They will hold anywhere from 350 to 500 rounds depending on caliber.

I use the Costco peanut/cashew plastic jugs for my empties often. That is when I am shooting ammo stored in ammo cans. I also use them for storing my range pick up and other given to me brass until I get enough to sort them. Usually about 10 of them.

I use the square peanut containers for ammo. Have a couple dozen full of pistol rounds. They definitely don't keep moisture out, so don't store them in the shower or outside...but if you're just sticking them in your closet, they'll be fine.
I have left them outside in rain before, and they build condensation pretty quick.

screw lids up under shelves, ceiling, etc and screw jars onto the lids.

thats an old times home workshop trick from way back for screws, nails, etc.

go ahead and use glass as long as it not a classroom for 4th graders.
