Cannon Safes

Okay, I peeped these at the Vta GunShow last weekend, grabbed the brochures for them and Liberty safes, blah blah. I find I'm leaning toward Cannon, and I can check out all of the stuff at Dean Safes in Van Nuys on the way home from work. Great.

Who's got one, who loves it, who hates it? I need something huge as far as your common gun safe goes, not only for guns and ammo, but I'm going to stash some of my irreplaceable guitars in there as well. So there's a couple models I am considering. Not too crazy about their handgun door utility, Liberty's is far more well designed, but that isn't a deal breaker by any means.

So, anyway, flap your gums!

I have a Fort Knox and I like it. With 18 bolts total on the door, I think it is pretty safe.

The Cannon mechanical lock are delicate. One needs to turn the dial nice and uniformly. No spinning.

I bought two at Costco a few years ago. It came with the digital lock. What else can I say, it's a safe and it works.

My Cannon patriot's digital lock crapped out after about 2 months, they came and had to drill a f-ing hole in the front of my safe, it's behind the new lock but I'm still pissed. If you get a cannon get something in writing about a guarntee on the lock, keep all your proof of purchase info outside the safe.

Keep in mind there are only a couple of companies that make the locks for all the safe co's out there so this really applies to all safes.

I believe the interior of cannons could be made a little better my center support broke when I moved, with nothing in the safe.

I've got two of the Cannon T50's. Nicely built safes, good interior layout and rock solid. The digital locks have never failed. Overall, I am very happy with Cannon. Gonna need a third pretty soon. They have gone up in price though, but I still think worth it. HTH's

I should state that I am happy with my safe. I got a 36 gun safe for what other companies were charging for 18 gun safes although I'm pretty sure I could not get 36 guns into it unless they were all shotguns without pistol grips.

I have a Cannon Patriot safe and I love it. One of the great things about the company is their warranty...if the safe fails for any reason (including fire and flood), they'll not only fix it, but they will pay shipping both ways if a locksmith can fix it on-site.

Most manufacturers will repair their safes, but they leave the cost of shipping up to you. Think about how much it would cost to ship an 800lb. safe...

So did mine. If anything DON'T get a safe with a Kaba Mas digital lock. I had 2 fail on me. The second time was a complete failure and the smith had to drill out my lock. If he drilled yours make sure that he drove in and epoxied a ball bearing in the hole in the hard plate OTW your locking mechanism is vulnerable. I ended up converting mine to a mechanical S&G lock. I can spin that sucker all I want. If not for digital lock I would have been 100% happy.

I have a Liberty safe with a mechanical lock. I can spin and spin it with not problem. Mine has been moved and used for 6 years without an issue.

From watching the smith the Kaba Mas and the S&G locking mechanisms had the same footprint so no additional drilling to mount a different mechanism was needed and it bolted right up to the hard plate. The dial mounts to the shaft and the ring mounts on the outside. What you will need is the combo changing tool which I think came with the lock. You can find lock and dial sets on eBay.

Have you been having trouble with you S&G electronic lock? I only changed mine b/c the failures and did not want to have to drill my safe again if it failed again.
