HSC issued in 97?

looked at my uncles HSC card and it has no experation date, issued in 1997, was wondering if it is valid or he needs to renew it?

IIRC, that would be a BFSC, basic firearms safety certificate. And even though it hasn't expired, it isn't accepted anymore. You need a current HSC card to obtain a handgun.

That must be BFSC(Basic Firearm Safety Certificate), not HSC. HSC started in 2003, mkaing BFSC obsolete. So much for life time use of BFSC. Thank you CA DOJ.

So in other words, your uncle has to take HSC test.

And just as a heads up, it cost $25 to take the HSC test. And this time around, the card has a 5 year expiration date that will be on the card.

It was good for life ,now it's expired,thus it is dead ie ; no longer alive.
OR ..maybe all the BFSC people should sue for breach of contract.
Same as in ...the money I didn't have and didn't spend is now saved .....so I can spend half of it ...and claim to have saved 50%.

Peace officer (active California)
Peace officer (active federal)
Peace officer (honorably retired California or federal)
Reserve peace officer (as defined in Penal Code Section 832.6)
Persons who have successfully completed P.O.S.T. 832 PC firearms training
Federally licensed firearm collector who has a DOJ-issued COE who is acquiring a federally-defined curio/relic
Person to whom a handgun is being returned, where he/she is the owner of the firearm
Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit Holder
Military - active duty
Military - honorably retired
Military - active reserve
Certain particular and limited authority peace officers
Persons who hold a DOJ-issued special weapons permit
Persons taking possession of firearms pursuant to specific conditions related to operation of law acquisitions
Law enforcement service weapon passed to surviving family member
