I agree on Targetmasters. I used to go there to shoot, but only because it was close to Walmart. Every time I've done a PPT there, it seems like the employee doing it is getting "trained" how to do it. How can they constantly be training people and at the same time, never have more than 1 person who actually knows what they're doing? They also have their own paperwork which wastes more time, and I believe they make you wait 11 days, instead of the normal 10, because their employees can't seem to figure out that the time you completed the paperwork is the time you are allowed to pick up on the 10th day. Ridiculous.

I highly recommend Roger's Relics in Santa Clara - Lisa usually has me in and out of there in less than 30min. As an added bonus, Reed's is only about 5 minutes away, so you can still go shooting. I did a PPT at Bay Area Gun Vault a few weeks ago, they were quick as well. I've also done a PPT at Irvington Arms, but it was so long ago that I can't remember how long it took (definitely less than 1hr though).

      Irvington Arms

Did PPT at Irvington Arms, took 20 min. max. They are fast if you hit them when they are not very busy.

With all that has already been said about some of these local stores and FFL's, I am surprised and shocked that people still continue to patronize these stores.

Target Masters seems to mark up their prices on some of their pistols to above MSRP also.
Also, has anyone noticed one of their employees ( asian guy) who always twitches and then gives a short hysterical laugh or something? It took me a while to figure out that he does it because of a medical condition. One of the first few times I saw him do that I thought he was laughing at a comment I may have made. I always get nervous when he's handling a firearm because I'm afraid his "thing" might make him squeeze the trigger.

I happen to know the guy personally, and on his behalf his "thing" is called tourette's syndrome. although i can understand the idea of someone with this disorder working at a shooting range can make most people uncomfortable, i can assure you it does not affect his ability to handle firearms. in fact, he is quite knowledgeable on the subject and is very controlled when i have been shooting with him. he's one of the guys that got me into the hobby and took me shooting for the first time. be easy on the guy, he's a fellow gun enthusiast

that being said im also gonna have to agree with the fact that the service is lacking, and not all employees are competent. but they have a really good selection of firearms though. prices seem to be average. also, they arent OLL friendly to my dismay.

I agree with you, Kenton is very knowledgeable, and nothing to be scared about around him. There are few employees that are great, but not everyone.

Target Masters is just plain horrible to deal with. I've had too many bad experiences with them. Irvington Arms or Roger's relics is the way to go.

Only have done purchases there, not PPT...

And the only problem is that they are busy on a Friday night! Guy had 4 sales to DROS at the same time. He tried to do all at the same time. My DROS finished last after over an hour. But, he was good natured about it. And there is always something to look at in the cases.

I shoot more at TM than buy, but, I would buy there again, if they had something I wanted.

I also know this guy and he is one of the "good ones" that work there, Kenton is a great guy and anyone that speaks poorly of him or makes fun of his condition will be asked to step outside with me.......

I knew the first time I saw him that he had tourette's syndrome, It dosent keep him or anyone else with tourettes from doing anything you or I do. He is safe and probably better shot than you.

I don't blame the employees for poor training or lack of knowledge, its poor ownership that will keep me away.

How busy was it? If it was room capacity, then I can understand. But if it wasn't full of other customers, then you've been bamboozzled.

When you pick up the gun, talk to the manager with a letter and hopefully their practices will improve.

3 hours and almost 30 minutes...that's worse than waiting in the dentist room.

NEVER had a problem with TargerMasters; nor with Bill the Owner.

At least one of their employees is a member on here (I think his name is Bowser), I wonder why he has not popped in to give us the TM perspective. Unless he hasn't been on in a while he must know about this thread which seems to have become a TM gripe thread (not undeservedly so from what I have read).

I was there on Monday with a major itching to buy my Glock. To my dismay, not one employee (especially the two at the tables behind the gun displays cleaning rental guns) acknowledged me. They were sure quick to help a thug lookin fellow rent a double barrel shotgun though. I left and bought at Reed's. Take her home on the 12th.....
