My cousin just built one last week and we took it to Tumey Hill on Thursday. He used a file and a knife to carve out the lower and polished everything. The gun didn't jam not one time. He even changed the barrel from 9 to 40 without any issues. He didn't like the extra kick with the 40 rounds.

It's way cheaper to just buy a glock... be prepared to spend twice as much if you're gonna build one of these. Not to mention the 17 model 80% doesn't have a place for a serial number, which will be required once that new law goes into effect. I believe the whole single shot, dimensionally compliant thing applies too... lots of work. Only recommended for people who really like projects.

More expensive versus unregistered... to me it's definitely worth some extra $$$ - it's not that much more especially if you have a bunch of extra Glock parts laying around like i did.

I have a few of the compact models and they run great.
If they come out with a new version of the G17 I'll pick one of those up too.

It takes less than an hour to finish it if you use a dremel and some files - recommend some 1000/1500 grit sandpaper as well.

Gave me an excuse to try out some stippling over some cerakoting too.

          Is'nt the grip angle different?

Here we go again...unless you build it like this, you are wrong (in CA):

I feel like even if you built it like your picture- at some point in the building process it is semi auto- even if for a few minutes unless you very very careful in the steps you take to build it.

Yes the grip angle is slightly different but it shoots great.

I bought one cause im the kinda person who likes to build things, so this project was just up my alley. I honestly thinks its cheaper because I was able to individually buy parts instead of buying an already made glock and then changing the parts(plus no serial number!). I made a glock 35(.40cal) and converted it to 9mm from the start. It has a nice stainless slide, fiber optic sights, stainless guide rod, and I customized the grip to my hand. Now that being said the 80% glock does have some flaws. 1) the set screws for the front lugs are too long. once you tighten them they rub again the main spring. you just gotta cut them down but still someone should have noticed that when making this kit. 2) the ejector housing has a small gap which can cause the housing to rock back and firth slightly and not allow the slide to go back into battery. cutting a credit card and putting it in the gap was the fix which I found on youtube. 3) although this is probably because i went from .40 cal to 9mm but I get the infamous brass to your face symptom. Ive changed a few parts which has helped a lot but occasionally it still has issues feeding and extracting. overall Id give it 3 ot of 5 stars since you have to do additional mods to make it work properly. But i think customizing a gun to fit your fit and function was what made it worth while.
