Let's be real about this. It's an obsolete handgun, that has never really been updated and improved upon like the 1911. Nobody is busting down the door to buy them anymore.

If the tooling is so old and worn that it will cost FN big money to replace it, that is only worth while if the gun is selling well. I doubt that many new HP's are flying of the shelves of gun dealers.

It was an awesome handgun in its time, but has fallen out of favor. It failed to reinvent itself like the 1911 did. I have one, but rarely shoot it. When it come to 9mm's I'd rether shoot my Glocks, CZ's and even Caniks then my HP.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

According to my FFL, this is not on the roster. He won't transfer it.

Exactly. There are a lot better ways you can spend $1000. They just arent worth it. If they were around $600 new than that would be a better deal. No real loss if they stop making them.

The CZ75 is a much better pistol than the hi power and a lot cheaper so that your average shooter can actually afford to buy it.

I own an FN High Power.

As a shooter, it is terrible. I can't think of a modern 9mm I like less, and I've pretty much owned/shot them all.

There will be plenty of these floating around on the used market for longer than we'll be alive. They made a billion and they don't go bad. Unless you absolutely have to get a NIB one, you'll be OK. Nobody wants these that much.

It doesn't need improved, because it is a far better design than the 1911... and the 1911 is a good design.

That being said, a really nice Hi-Power has not come off the line since about 1985, so it really doesn't matter if they make less crafted ones anyway

My Browning Hi-Power is a beautiful steel and wood creation, and has been more reliable than both my Glocks and my Sigs. Also, in a wartime setting (which is no longer relevant to me) the pistol is the best point shooter ever made. Under heavy use and bad circumstance, I prefer metal to plastic if I don't have to hide it.

Still my favorite pistol; it is too heavy (like the 1911) and should be sent to the scrap heap of history; making my truly gorgeous ones worth thousands :-). The only thing I mourn is the lack of craftsmanship in today's pistol. Made by hand vs. stamped out in a water press or whatever.

Still, the new disposable guns are cheap, light and function well. One thing I can say about my Glock is I wouldn't care if I had to toss it in the lake, whereas my Hi-Power... no way :-).

                Awesome guns

It has had a pretty good run. But this may be a business move. Expense vs. sales would not be the first time an iconic firearm was discontinued.

There are better weapons out there for less money.

In my mind when I read Hi Power, I was thinking Hi Point.

And thinking why are people upset about the hi point going away....

I understand there are people that love the HP and think it is the best gun ever made. The problem is, there really aren't that many of them, hence the slow sales.

Stating it does not need upgrading is just ridiculous, in the days of the one handed shooting stance and no such thing as a speed reload it was fine. Not to mention magazine disconnect and hammer bite.

But with the high two handed grip favored today, speed reloads and dislike of mag disconnects. It absolutely needs one, when a high two handed grip causes the slide to continually lock back because of the slide lock design and your hand to be sliced open by the slide, it's a problem that needs to be addressed.

I'm glad I have one and enjoy plenking with it. But it has too many issue for modern use, ones that newer and upgraded designs don't have.

While I totally agree that the magazine disconnect is unnecessary and frankly I'm my opinion stupid don't forget it's a requirement for new guns in the PRK so eliminating the BHP for that from a marketing perspective in the largest market (CA) I don't think is bright.

I think FN has dropped the ball, not kept up with marketing or upgrading their tooling to produce a quality BHP as they once did and now don't want to spend the money to retool.

If they would just give the old worn-out tooling to Hi-Point then we all have $200 "Hi-powers" ....

that are really loose and have bad magazines.

                              I'm in for one.
