Marlin 336 vs Mossberg 464

Anyone have either of these?

Thinking about picking up the 336 or 336Y from BUDS for 400/448 respectively, but saw the Mossberg 464 Grey Laminate for about the same.

What say you guys?

I had a Marlin 336 (in 30.30) when I was in my teens (which was a long time ago-longer than I care to admit). Damn good gun

My 336 is a good gun. Slicked up the action and added a few add-ons.

I like the solid top of the marlin due to the strength of the action and also the ability it has to accept an XS lever scout rail that: 1. Increases the site radius, adds a excellent peep sight, and allows the mounting of a long-eye relief scope.

Definitely would trust this gun on a deer/elk hunt out to a couple hundred yards.

The new Marlins made in New York had a bad run for a while, but they have been pretty good for a few years now. If you can check it out good, and make sure there are no big defects, you'll be okay. My brother in law just got one last month, and it's nice. I prefer the wood and bluing of the older Marlins, and by older I mean '50s-60s.
I have only handled one Mossberg 464, and it felt like a cheap knockoff of a Winchester 94. And I'm not a Winchester 94 fan anyway.
