    Blinking when shooting

I blink when I'm shooting anything bigger than a .22, especially handguns. I watched other shooters and they don't. One rangemaster told me once I'd probably do better if I didn't blink on each shot. What do you guys think? I'm not sure if there's any way I can control my eyes blinking, and does it really affect my shooting?

i blink with my .308 for some reason. don't with .223 or even 12 gauge with slugs. i think it has to do with the scope being close, and me being scared of getting hit with it.

Yes it would help you. Its a matter of getting yourself used to the shot and shock wave and teaching your body not to react to it. Try some of the exercises people do to stop from crunching. You should also try to make a mental point of remembering what your sight picture was the moment the round fired. While you're working on that try to maintain that same sight picture through the moment when the gun fires. Of course you'll lose it as the gun recoils but the mental act will help keep your aim steady all the way through the firing cycle.

Keep on shooting and shooting and shooting and you will eventually not blink anymore.

I still blink at indoor ranges when other people shoot. I stopped doing it when I shoot usually though. I dont know how people dont blink when other people shoot the bigger rounds indoors.

The more you are exposed to gunfire the more it becomes natural to you.

Not sure about this, as my dad started shooting after me and he doesn't blink when shooting at all, after I started looking for it. It seems the more I do it, the more of a habit it becomes.

Or you can use snap caps or dry fire repeadtly so you get use to the firing the gun without blinking. It is also a good way to help with a flinch and breathing.

                      +1 or stick with a 22.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

                            OMG!

Sadly, the blinking is a form of flinching.......QUIT doing it!!!

It sounds like you are anticipating recoil. Try to shoot a 22 LR cal pistol and see if you still do it.
