Another range kit question, but with a twist (car kit)

    Hi Guys,

We have 20 threads here on what people take to the range in their range bag. This is not one of those threads.

Rather, I used to have a full kit, tools, pads, staplegun, etc etc etc etc I kept in a ready-range bag, just add targets, ammo, gun, and go. But the bag is heavy, and needs adjustment for each trip.

So what I want to do, is keep a COMPLETE range kit ready in the car so any time I want to go, I am ready, for whatever. Basically, a toolkit for the range, just add ammo and gun.

What should I put in the live-in-car range ready toolkit?

    For starters:

    small target stack
    pasters
    allen wrenches
    flathead screwddrivers
    phillips scredriver (#2)
    LED flashlight
    Chronogaph
    elbow pads
    staplegun
    staples
    brass rod
    small cleaning kit
    towel/tablecloth
    ear muffs
    backup eye pro

    ...and?

The idea is simple. Everything and the kitchen sink, so range trips are gun and ammo only, and if something happens (squib, I want to measure velocity, I'm shooting prone that day, I need to adjust something or tighten a screw, etc etc etc), all I need to do is walk to the car rather than halt a range trip.

What else goes in such a kit?

    Too much

All you need for a range are:

    Paper Targets
    ear muffs
    backup eye pro
    empty mags

Keep your guns & ammo in the house

    These my range supplies:
    staplegun
    staples

I keep a few things in the bed of the truck because it is tedious to get those items out all the time. But in the bed, I have a bench vise with the trailer hitch mount that I made for it. My steel target stands are in the back, along with my cardboard targets. I think I have one 66% and one 45% IPSC AR500 in the back right now. My scope stand and a separate tripod is also back there, but the tripod is usually used for my camera. Oh, and a shovel since that's a requirement for WEGC. I have a handful individually wrapped earplugs in the glove compartment and a fire extinguisher and trauma kit in the cab.

Outside of that, I don't leave any other range related things in the truck. I take the toolbox, targetry bag, ammo, etc, out after every range trip. I wouldn't want to subject my spotting scope, LabRadar, rangefinder, and other like items to the SoCal heat in the summer, nor the humidity in the early mornings or in the non-Summer seasons.
