    How Many PPT's ???

How many ppt's are allowed if at all? Some FFL'S say 6 some say 5 some say they never heard of such thing. I have sold a few guns I don't like and am selling another. My question is there a limit on how many guns I can PPT in a year?? I don't do this for a living I just sometimes don't like the gun that I thought I once did. I do not do this for a living just a hobby ...

So please NO THREAD CRAPPING I NEED HONEST ANSWERS IF THIS EXSISTS if you don't like the question move on .....

    here's CA law.

12070. (a) No person shall sell, lease, or transfer firearms unless he or she has been issued a license pursuant to Section 12071. Any person violating this section is guilty of a misdemeanor.
    (b) Subdivision (a) does not include any of the following:
    (4) The infrequent sale, lease, or transfer of firearms.
(c)(1) As used in this section, "infrequent" means:
    (A) For pistols, revolvers, and other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person, less than six transactions per calendar year. For this purpose, "transaction" means a single sale, lease, or transfer of any number of pistols, revolvers, or other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person.
    (B) For firearms other than pistols, revolvers, or other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person, occasional and without regularity.
For handguns, no more than 5 transactions per year. For long guns, no set limit. If they feel you are doing it more than "occasional and without regularity", they could prosecute you for it.

With regards to federal law, if they feel you are acting as a dealer, without a license, they could prosecute. And they don't quantify what the limits are that they consider "dealing".

      Buying- any amount you like
Selling- handguns= less than 6 transactions (any amount of handguns per transaction)
      Rifles/shotguns= "infrequently"

thats not to say that people don't do more than 5 handgun sales transactions per year. Hell, I've seen people on this forum clear out a safefull of handguns and be way over that. It looks, per the letter of law, to be illegal, but it appears that CADOJ turns a blind eye to those trying to legally liquidate a portion of a collection. It would probably be looked at differently if you are constantly buying and then selling handgun all year long. At that point, you may be acting as a dealer, and may have to deal with CADOJ and/or BATF.

As mentioned above, ATF may decide to smack you down if they feel you are acting as if a dealer without a license. And there is no quanitified number that they will give you so that you can stay on the right side of the line.

handgun PPT transfers are exempt from the 1-in-30-day restiction statewise, but some cities, like LA, have their own laws that do not have a PPT exemption. So, unless you are in one of those cities, you can do 2 handgun PPTS at the same time if you want. But, be aware that the FFL will file a multiple-handgun transfer report with the ATF on it if you purchase multiple handguns from the dealer within a 5-day period.

Is that a bad thing? what exactly does that trigger? a visit from Allison? or a ATF agent?

A friend has two pistols that I want and I was hoping to DROS them at the same time. I know I have to pay two DROS fees though..

normally, it is not an issue. But if you are routinely buying multiple handguns, and ATF was receiving multiple multiple handgun reports, you may get a second look at. But, if you are acting legally, you shouldn't have a problem.

well, you do get a slight discount on the second handgun.

If the transaction is a PPT, you are restricted to charging no more than $25.00 in State fees described and $10.00 per firearm for conducting the PPT. For example:

For a PPT involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees are $35.00 for the first handgun, and $31.00 for each subsequent handgun.
For PPTs involving one or more long guns, the State fees are limited to $25.00 for the whole transaction plus $10.00 dealer fee per firearm transferred.
