    Mechtech Owners: feedback please :)

    Hey guys,
I saw some threads mentioning mechtechs as a nice way to run a Glock 17/19 pistol caliber carbine. I did some research, and now I wanna buy one. Originally, the whole reason I wanted to get a PCC is to have another way to shoot my .45acp ammo.

I found the HK USC too expensive, Hipoint 4595 too ugly, and the Kriss Vector ugly and expensive...!

I'm thinking the Mechtech is the way to go.

Anyone own and use Mechtech in a caliber other than 9mm, preferably in .45acp? Or maybe 10mm? I saw that the Mechtech does well with 10mm from a video review. I also saw the Hickock45 youtube, rocking the 10mm Mechtech CCU, on a Glock20SF 10mm, looked awesome. I'm not sure if I'd want a Glock17 for a 9mm, Glock20 for 10mm, or potentially a 1911 (Citadel ArmsCor .45acp) for the 1911 CCU.

So the question is---any fans of Mechtech with a CCU in a caliber other than 9mm? If so, what do you think? Like/Dislike?

If you built it between 2001 to 2016 needs bullet button, if you built it this year can't get rid of Glock Pistol grip, would need mag lock or featureless plus once rifle needs to stay rifle others can chime if I got that straight

Edit "Forgot about the grip wrap Glock "

Oh man this IS the thread... thanks! Hmmm.... now I just gotta decide if I wanna go where the fun is at (10mm), or go with what I already got lots of (9mm).

          Thanks NATEWA

Also, keep in mind that under CA laws/regulations...

Once you make your handgun into a rifle, it is now considered a rifle.
Afterwards, if you make it back into a "handgun", it will not be considered a handgun due to meeting the definition of a short barrel rifle (weapon made from a rifle [PC 17170(c)]). [PC 16530(b)]

As a semi-auto centerfire rifle, it will need to be made so that it complies with CA assault weapons laws for rifles. [PC 30515(a)(1),(2),&(3)]

Therefore, in order to be CA legal...
The overall length will need to be 30" or greater and it will need to be configured as a featureless semi-auto centerfire rifle or as a semi-auto centerfire rifle with a fixed magazine.

If you go the fixed magazine route...
Since, "bullet button" style magazine locks are no longer legal and because there currently is no mechanism that will allow the magazine to be locked in a manner that will prevent it from being removed unless the action is disassembled, the magazine will need to be welded/epoxied/riveted into the firearm's magazine well.

The most practical method of making it CA legal, is using a fixed shoulder stock and a grip wrap.
^This combination should be over the 30" overall length requirement and will cause the semi-auto rifle to be considered featureless.

Also, once it is made into a rifle, it should always be kept as a rifle while in CA.
^This is to avoid violating CA SBR/SBS laws.

Thanks Quiet, I'm aware of the laws and what's posted, after reading it all the attached links. As always, Calguns is excellent source of info.

Since you have to keep it as a rifle, I'd build a .45 or 10mm (depending on if you have a g20 or g21) featureless or fixed mag, compliant rifle.
