Storing Ammo Loose vs Boxed + Ammo Can Maintenance

How do you guys prefer to store ammo? Boxed from factory or loose? I stored loose 9mm/45/223(freedom munitions/PPU) w/ silica gel this year. Didn't have any issues, but a thought came to mind about the weight of 900+ rounds resting on the few rounds at the bottom. Just recieved a bunch of 9mm WPA from Ammo Supply Warehouse (gtg & fast btw) & ammo cans from PSA. Wondering if I should switch it up with this polymer coated stuff.

Also, what about gasket maintenance (50 cal ammo cans)? I usually just put a little oil on my gaskets and forget it, what do yall do?

I keep them in their original boxes in the safe for easier inventory and I bring them to the range that way also so if a round gives me any issues I don't have to squint to read the case

I always keep them in factory boxes....and keep them that way till the range where I dispose of my trash there. I'm certain the way yours are stored is just fine. I just keep them that way for quicker inventory and to know how many I blew threw at the range.

Factory ammo is generally in factory boxes inside ammo cans with dessicant packs.

Reloads are in ammo cans inside ziploc bags with dessicant packs as well. They are marked with pertinent load data and dated.

At work I receive, configure and distribute lots of electronic items, which provides a steady source of free dessicant packs. I wish I had a source for free ammo cans, as I am filling them pretty rapidly these days.

Original cases. I keep my ammo in a mitary water proof case. So far its holding thousands of rounds. I have a second one when I move to a bigger place.

I just keep my steel case ammo loose in .50 and .30 cans. 308 is in 200 round belts in .30 cans. bulk .22lr is loose.

Only my .22lr subsonics and 6.5cr is stored in factory boxes in ammo cans.

It would take me too long to load mags and belts at a range so I do that at home while watching tv. It took me 2 hours to load up mags and drums for yesterday's shoot.

Not really. It was pretty hot out and I was not feeling it. I ran 30 rounds through my AK47, 40 through my AR15, 60 through my STEN and 60ish through my P226 legion to see how it did with a suppressor. I could barely make it through the course before I was worn out so I think I did 2 full runs that wind through a 5 acre course and maybe 2 or 3 runs through our 30 foot shoot house. Even resting for 30 minutes per run wore me out faster than usual and I get tired fast.

I was planning on staying more than the 3 hours but no one wanted to stay and all I needed was to trip on a rock and be stuck in the desert by myself under the hot sun. I'm just glad I did not drag my 1919 out of the safe.

On the plus side I have my handgun pack all ready with about 12 mags, a few drums loaded, and some AR and AK mags loaded.

Yesterday was just 5 of us with one of them being a Calgunner that lives near me. It was very laid back. I'm used to being out there 4-10 hours but this time we were done in under 4.

Perhaps too "physics" for this board, but a single round sitting on the ground bears the weight of many miles of atmosphere above it, so a paltry few rounds really don't make it that much worse.

Just watched War Dogs, so I was inspired to repack ammo loose in ammo cans as well. After ditching the factory packaging, I was able to pack a whole lot more into one .50 cal can, which is nice. I only did it for my 22lr tho. Space is at a premium in my garage, so I may keep at it.
