For this summer's reading I am immersing myself in books about Hemingway.
I recommend the following books;
Hemingway's Guns- The Sporting Arms of Ernest Hemingway is written by three gun experts who track down and research rifles, shotguns and pistols owned or used by Papa Hemingway. Well illustrated and researched.
Next is Ernest Hemingway, a new biography of the writer by Mary Dearborn who stresses Papa's nine hits on the head caused brain damage which caused his weird behavior and suicide. I think the author is recasting Hemingway's life in the context of present day feminism. But it is so well written, I can recommend it. The cover photo shows Hemingway aiming a Thompson submachine gun directly at the viewer. I admit I bought the book because of the cover picture!
Paul Hendrikson's bio, Hemingway's Boat- Everything He Loved in Life and Lost 1934-1961. Well written and researched study about Papa's love for deep sea fishing and life aboard the Pilar. Recommended.
Lastly is a scholarly study of Hemingway's brain damage. Hemingway's Brain by Andrew Farah. Surprisingly well written, a little technical, but I find it interesting. Worth a read.
All of these may be purchased on Amazon.com if you want to buy.
Enjoy!
