To reload or buy a budget optic

On a budget and not sure if I should buy into a reloading setup or a PA acss optic. I know if I reload, I'll always have ammo to blast with but an optic would allow me to reach out and have more fun shooting..
You're opinion and reasoning would be valued

I spent most of my life competing with iron sites against the fancy optics. Y'all can reach out jes fine with the sights ya got. Nothing beats a nice reload. Reducing the power in a handgun load makes a world of difference in speed shooting. Long range rifle is about consistency, which is what reloading can do.

Reloading all the way, you get to shoot a lot more and with the extra trigger time with the iron sights you'll be reaching out to long distance in no time.

That acss reticle is busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest. If you want to "reach out" then get a decent variable, from 3-9 to 6-18, with a bdc or mil dot reticle. Crosshairs get accuracy.
Bushnell's AR Optics are a good budget value, they go on sale often.

You don't go cheap on optics. If you buy a cheap optic now, you'll end up replacing it. So given your choices, get into reloading.

Took me a long time to get over the hump and get some reloading equipment, with my brother and lots of shooting friends continually telling me that I needed to start hand loading.

Once I did, well, there was no looking back. Not only do I get to tailor my loads (especially for Cowboy shooting), I found that it was actually a whole bunch of fun to do. You just need to sit down for an hour, load a few hundred rounds (without trying for any speed records), and you leave the reloading bench totally fulfilled with a bunch of ammo that you just made.

Wish I had started sooner. And who knows - With the CA politicians trying to neuter all guns with draconian ammo controls, how long will it take before they try to outlaw reloading components as well? You know, the gangs must get virtually all of their ammo through the "reloading loophole"!

Can the optic - get a press and components.

This isn't nearly as true as it used to be. A $200 Nikon or Leupold will last the lifetime of an average hunter easily. For 3 gun or whatever, you will need to develop some serious chops before your optic is the thing holding you back. You only really need a big bucks scope for the precision disciplines.

I would not want to do a run and gun match and drop my rifle into a barrel or on a bench repetitively with a sub $200 optic.

I reload. However, I can't just flat out suggest that you get into reloading. It's not for everyone. The upfront costs are huge and you do have to spend a fair amount of time on it.

If you're considering reloading, ask a friend (or ask someone on Calguns) to show you the process they go through from start to finish. It may change your mind.

I will agree with the consensus in many of the posts above . . . .

If the choice were between a top end optic vs reloading, annnnd I had a significant use for that optic, it might actually be worth dwelling over.

But as soon as you mentioned "cheap optic", my opinion quickly moved on to option B.

I would start reloading If it was me. Get the best equipment you can afford now.

                        Best of luck.

Reload, optics can be had easily. You can get a set up for $300 or less just stay with a single stage unit.

Do not reload. It will only make getting supplies for the rest of us harder when there is another panic.
To be serious please consider you will spend more than $200 to get set up and get supplies to reload. It really is not a cheap hobby.

Get a scope with the most crap in the reticle and knobs to turn. Then you can be like the others who think that all that will make them the greatest shot and not use what is between their ears to shoot well. Especially if you plan to hunt with it.

NorCalFocus---A $200 Leupold will hold up as well(or better) than any higher priced optic. Many years of using them and frankly abusing them have taught me that. I would not say the same for other brands.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
