I know we still have time and the regs have not been approved yet but for someone who has many firearms they plan on registering it might be a good idea to start now.
For example, if you have 10 firearms that will be registered, you may have to take 4 pictures of each firearm totaling 40 photos. That can take an hour or two.
Second, the data entry alone for the CFaRS system is long and tiresome.. to do that for 10 firearms may take a few hours as well.
I'd imagine it could take a whole day straight from start to finish to do everything you think you have to do for 10 firearms. Remember, to get charged only one fee you have to submit them all in one session.
You can start now by taking photos to break up some Of the work so you don't have to do everything in one day.
I took photos of 9 ARs today and it took about 2.5 hours from start to finish. Most of that time was moving them back and forth from my safe and what not.
Just a friendly tip, nothing more. If anyone has ever filled out the form to register a 80% with the DOJ they know the data entry portion is a long process as well.
As a backdrop I typed up a small statement indicating that per the new laws I am required to submit these photos but I do not waive my 4th and 5th amendment rights. I also indicated that any other use of these photos other than registration is a violation of my 4th and 5th amendments.
It may be premature but I like to be prepared.
