What's with ammo prices and availability?

    Howdy,

I just got back into shooting (got rid of the wife), and am shocked.
What's going on with ammo prices and availability?
This cannot all be related to Barack-racy, can it?

I have usually shot my reloads, and kept the new stuff in storage for WTSHTF, but am thinking about selling out my new ammo. I've got about 100K rounds in 14 different calibers of new stuff (60+ full 50cal. ammo cans) . If I do this, I can still shoot my reloads.

    Please give me guidance!

Holy hell man, 100k rounds? I think you single handedly dried up the market for some calibers!

I'll be doing an inventory and posting a list this weekend.

I'll be doing an inventory and posting a list this weekend.

Like I said: I never shoot the new stuff, and have reloads to last me several years. I have about 20K projectiles, 100# of various powders, and 30K primers, too... Are these in short supply as well?

Ammo is in Orange County, and will able to be picked up nights/weekends.

Wanna get rid of some reloading components as well? I'm about to get into reloading but could use some ammo too.

Selling your good ammo is akin to selling the goose that lays Golden Eggs.

To SoCal gunner: If you shoot 38-Super, then YES... I've got about 6K LRN projectiles. 160gr. Those are taking up the most room, and would need to go first. Also have some 357 and 44 projos that I could spare, also. I'll have a list next week.

Brad, I'd be interested in some less popular calibers. I'm in OC. I need 45 LC and 44 Special.

I say this is a good time to sell your ammo. I got rid of my "miscellaneous" stash awhile back, still bothers me a bit since I can get 6 times the value now.

And it's not because of Barrack, if you have been following prices like I have in the past decade you could see that curve just get launch off into space. An example is .308, I could score a thousand round for around $.10 a round a few years ago. South African was plentiful and going for not much more than a dime a round. Heck I bought a pallet full of Argentinian surplus for like $.04 a round. The same stuff now will run you $.50+ per round. That's barely 3 years ago, a 10x increase in price in barely 3 years.

An importer that is currently selling the German NATO stuff in small quantities to "keep the prices up". They've been sitting on a few million rounds for like 2 years but have been milking it for all it's worth. Those guys know how to time the market, they're letting it trickle out like pure gold.

It really has nothing to do with any politicians, as evil as someone might make Barrack out to be, our current price hike is of our own doing, he has done nothing. Ammo in particular went up because raw materials sky-rocketed. the raw material basically went insane.

To say Obama had nothing to due with it is just not true, all he had to do was get elected. Prior to Nov. no lines, no waiting, (except for military grade 223) plenty of ammo. After the election, lines, waiting, back orders, shortages. People are stocking up. Been to a gun show lately?
If it was just because the price of raw materials sky-rocketing, then how do you explain the shortage and price hikes on surplus ammo. The price has gone up because people are hoarding ammo.
