    Transport restrictions on AWs

    I have multiple rifles.

If I was transporting a 5.56 upper attached to a featureless 9mm lower, as a host, then had a registered AW lower only in a locked gun bag, will I subject be subject to AW transport restrictions?

    Thanks.

If you are transporting a registered assault weapon serialized lower, I would follow the AW Transportation laws. Even if you detached the upper and attached it to a different lower.

The updated assault weapons registration regulations does state that separating the upper from the lower or removing the firing pin results in the firearm no longer being considered a center-fire semi-auto but I believe they are only referring to unregistered firearms. Once you go RAW, you have a RAW until you un-register.

I've seen people argue this question both ways but the safe answer is to follow the RAW transportation laws.
