    Anchoring a safe

New home being built. Sub-floor is 7/8 " OSB. I have access under floor so I could put large washers or a plate under it to prevent pullout or I can drill and anchor in the garage. (non tensioned slab)

    What say you all?

if you use the subfloor, buy a 2x6 and cut it long. depends on how much between floor joists.
instead of washers, buy a piece of steel 2 to 3 inches wide and cut the length to 6 inches, drill one hole for the bolt. angle iron works even better.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

If you have ever worked construction/demolition you will know what to do.

      Buy a former bank.

Thanks. Angle iron is a great idea.

Steel is always good but I'd just nail or use angle bracket in a few 6x6 block section where the bolts will go . Lag bolt into those and it ain't going anywhere .

For inside look for a bearing wall where it meets a corner so access is limited on at least two sides. Then through bolt to some iron as others have described.

Garages can be touchy due to heat, cold, and moisture, so that would be my backup if inside is off the table.

It's amazing what you can do to the wall of a safe with a $20 grinder/cutoff wheel from Harbor Freight. Invest in secondary backups, alarms, lights, dogs, etc. My safe weighs almost 1000 lbs and is basically nothing more than a box that keeps little kids out and slows down damage to the contents inside from fire. Like the man said, buy a bank.

I do construction. Id make concrete walls on both sides of the safe at least 6-8" thick with rebar. For the roof/cover you can bolt a metal plate or pour more concrete on top. For the door you can bolt on hinges and use a thin 1/8,3/8" piece of metal. Bolt it down in the garage with red heads.

The idea of a simple grinder or other power tools being able to get in a safe is to assume the bad guys brings that with him and feels safe enough to take that kind of time and as wellas make that kind of noise . The right tools and time , no safe is "safe"
