    New scope need help!

alright, I am new to the gun enthusiast world. I am in dire need of help as I think I have done something wrong. I recently purchased a Remington Precision Rifle .308win 20" barrel.

I then bought scope rings. I bought Nightforce 1.00 Medium Ultralite 30mm Ring set.

    Lastly, I bought Vortex Optics VHS-4310 Viper HS-T 6-24x50 Riflescope with VMR-1.

My issue is the front of the scope sits on top of the rail. Is that bad? should I upgrade my scope rings? If so, what type of rings? I would share a picture but I am not sure if that is allowed and I am not sure how to do so.

    Your rings are too low.

As i understand it, the position of the scope in relationship to the barrel is dependent upon several criteria. Most notably is one's ability to properly align the scope bore axis to your eye when you are comfortably settled in...and having a little air space between the barrel and the scope.

Most advocate keeping the scope close the the barrel to minimize discordance between the two planes, while eliminating any chance of having the barrel hitting the scope.

First i'd make sure your neck and head are comfortably aligned and fixed to the stock. Adjust the comb for comfort and sight plane, you want to bring the gun to your face not your face to the gun.

Also, make sure you can work the rifle bolt with the scope and rings in place..sometimes they can interfere

Then once you're comfortable... assuming the scope is just touching the rail, and as you already have the scope and the rifle and a set of rings in hand i would probably just go up one height size on the rings.

If you had to significantly adjust the comb you might have to go higher.

i used this technique by Brownells using modeling clay and it worked great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYnA1UJH5lU

      hope that helps

Can you post a pic of how you have the scope mounted ?
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

6-24x50 The last number is the objective. With 50 objective, you need high rings.

Not an expert, the other guys will be more specific.

              ^^^DEfinitely That^^^

Easiest option if possible is to cut the front of the "rail". The objective bell should be out over the barrel. Not sitting on the rail. If the rail extends that far over the barrel unsupported, That portion of it is serving no purpose anyway.

                Too generic of a statement...

Both my R700 rifles with 50mm objectives use low rings... One of them being a Vortex PST 6-24x50

Not a single clearance issue and eye relief is perfect. In fact every bolt action I have owned to date has used low or super low rings...

+1 on pictures from the OP.
