Something in my black hills hollow points?

Got a box of hollow points from Black Hills and there is something lodged in the hollow tips of some of them. I've been trying to pick it out with a needle but not pushing too hard. I don't see any reason why I cant fire it in this condition but does anyone know or think it will affect accuracy?

It is cyanide held in the hollow by candle wax. I heard it works great on Great Whites and bluefish.

I have found the junk in the HP bullets to be VERRRY tightly compacted cardboard or paper..... it's as hard as a rock and took a dental pick to remove.

Don't even worry about it and DON'T take a drill to a bullet. Lots of times you will find little bits of junk in HP bullets. if you can get it out with a pin then great but hacking the bullet up will get rid of its accuracy and could make it dangerous to shoot.

I picked some of this up the other day and noticed the same thing. It looks like tumbling media to me.

HAHAHAHA I guess not . The reason I say don't is because the bullet should not be clamped down in a vise. That could damage the case if not careful and with the pressure of 223 you don't want a damaged case....KABOOM. Drilling the bullet can do three things, one is it will remove material which takes out consistancy in weight with the other rounds and in turn gives you a less accurate round. Two, if you drill it off center again your accuracy goes down. Three, the bullet was designed to stand up to the fast speeds at which it flys and if you thin out the copper jacket at the nose you run the risk of the round opening up while in flight. Ever seen a light 223 40gr bullet shot out of a 1/7 twist barrel? The force and speed will rip the bullet apart. If your bullet has just right material for flight and expantion at impact you don't want to go removing any. I'm sure if you are careful and know what you are doing you will not have any problems but we all know there are the redneck magoo's of the world who will crush the bullet in the vise, use too large of a drill bit, and blow themself up because they "red'er rite theer on thee in-tro-net". Its really better to just tell people to leave the bullet be.

Well, I shot all 100 rounds of it yesterday, and I found it to be very inconsistent at 100 yards. From a Varmiter OLL I got a few slightly sub 1" groups, then a few 3" groups, and a 4" group. I didn't pay much attention to which ones I loaded, I should have separated the ones that I couldn't get the stuff out of and the ones that didn't have any, but I felt that I also might have messed with the copper jacketing on some of them with the needle I was trying to poke it out with. I think if this ever happens again, I'll just send it back.

Good grief! I use the 68 grain hollow points that are full of tumblng media and still manage 1-2" groups at 100 yards using iron sights on my RRA N.M.
