    Reusing solvent

So I stumbled across the solvent mag light trap and thought I could clean my rifles in my gun room instead of the garage. I know everyone is thinking I have a question about the legality but I don't I don't care one way or the other it just got me thinking do people reuse there solvent?

I use a shot glass to soak my brakes and have just throw it out after which is a waste. So if you reuse, do you filter it or just reuse?

Solvent is meant to dissolve as I understand it. As long as it works I will use it. Once it stops working I will dispose of it. I never filter or clean the solvent. Which may be a mistake because the result of a solvent working is a solution, and I guess lead byproduct as well as carbon, etc. are now at the bottom of the bottle.

I have a bottle with a little Hoppe's (I know it is not a very harsh solvent if at all) in it to only reach the ports on one of my integrally compensated 1911 barrels. I stick the barrel muzzle down into the bottle and leave there overnight. Take the barrel out, clean out the now-soft gunk and perform regular cleaning the bottle with a bit of Hoppe's in it is put away.

So I would like to know too if I should be disposing of that...

Metal platers discard it when it becomes contaminated. It can actually form acids and cause corrosion. Filters must remove water to be effective, not particulate matter... Signed. A metal finishing chemist.

        i don't soak things overnight...

i just dab enough on with q-tips or patches, then scrub with toothbrush that i get for free from dentist visit or those company health fair.

may upgrade to electric toothbrush soon once they get cheap enough since it would save me some effort.

With each use more solute in solution. Each additional use will continue to dissolve more into solution until it eventually become saturated. Then nothing more will dissolve. Like adding sugar to water until no more dissolves. Maybe use it a few times.. I don't but then it is getting quite pricey..

I use diesel for my AKs. Keep it in an old German fuel can. Swap it out occasionally. A buddy of mine uses the same open pot of it over and over until it's gone
