Question: Training for First-Time Female Gun Owners

Background: I run a page on Facebook chronicling the failures of AB 109 and Props 47 and 57. It has approximately 3200 followers and gets a lot of traffic at times. One of the reoccurring messages I receive is suggestions on gun ownership and training, mainly from females looking at purchasing their first handgun for home protection. I generally shy away from recommending anything other than a trip to the range with a friend and renting several weapons BEFORE making a commitment on such a major purchase.

The one thing I do advocate repeatedly is training once a purchase is made.

Is there a single source that lists female-friendly/only firearms training in California? Or is it pretty much a piecemeal affair?

Check out Calguns Shooting Sports Association.

We run more Women of Target events each year than anyone else, several each month throughout So Cal and working on Nor Cal.

Where in Nor Cal, San Francisco east bay or more like Sacramento?

Also, you don't need to wait until you buy a firearm to take training. Many instructors will provide class guns so that you can learn the fundamentals. This will help with making their first purchase decision, or even providing confidence when going to a range to rent guns to try out.

There are several women's only trainers in Sacramento but they are not affiliated with Women on Target. I belong to one of the groups. I'll be back with some names.

You could also post in the Ladies forum http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=153 for suggestions.

They could also check out the Ladies Shooting League at FT3.
