    Registered AR pistol question

Hi guys, I'm sure this subject has been brought up before. My apologies in advance as my seach-fu is very weak this morning. In light of the recently released AW registration guidelines, how do we go "featureless" on AR pistols. Im not referring to 80% lowers that have been built to by AR pistols. Im talking about registered AR pistols. It seems that the A holes up in Sacramento have screwed us really good. Any info is appreciated as I am not registering crap!

Use the ARMaglock or similiar design. You would have to break open the action to remove the magazine. You can't go "featureless" on an AR pistol since a feature is the magwell is outside the pistol grip.

I think the mag is suppose to be epoxied or welded or riveted to comply and the ar maglock is not compliant.

According to the regs, fixed mag is now legally defined as either welded, epoxied or ribbeted to the lower receiver. I don't think GC hook or AR Maglock will do...

No, not yet. That is not the the legal definition, the reason so much is still in limbo. And the 'regs' are still under review. The original set establishing this were kicked to the curb when the NRA/CRPA raised holy-hell, and we can expect that to the the case by this recent new submission for regs to the OAL.

Don't help expedite compliance to what are not actually 'regs' yet.

Also, if it does come to that, be sure to use plenty of Frog Lube when you do ribbet your mags to the lower.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

That's the definition of "permanently attached" not "fixed magazine". Although the two might loop together somewhere in the regulations.

I cut apart a few pens and found a piece of the plastic body that fit perfectly under my old BB. Now I'm fixed mag for free.

Not perfect, but it's cheap until we know what better products will be legal.

                      Not compliant.

You can remove the mag locking mechanism without disassembling the upper from the lower.
This is the same problem the ARMaglock has.

But since a) the final regs are not out yet and b) you have until the end of December to register a non-compliant build, there is no need to rush to physical compliance at this time.

As far as I'm concerned it's as legal as any product is right now, which is hopefully enough to keep a deputy or ranger off my back Vs. still having a BB.

But as you said, since the final regs aren't out yet we are really all guess, and picking a solution that makes us feel comfortable.

Still having a BB is not yet a problem.

I know, but that makes it an unregistered AW until the end of the year.

Maybe mine is still, who knows, but it's not any more or less an AW than one with an ARMaglock, Patriot release, etc. that people are spending money on that may be proven to be non-compliant anyway.

But again, we really don't know for sure at this point, I'm just trying to give myself a little safety margin since some LEO's don't know the law that well, especially right now.
