    blued finish sucks

what's the point of blued finish? The blued slide on my cz tactical sport has tons of rust marks and it didn't even get wet, I just left it out. How do I fix this and what the hell is the point of a blued finish if it is so easily ruined by water... of all things.

Sounds like it was not oiled or well cared for. Is this the only gun you own?

To keep the metal from rusting so easily.

Did you touch it? If you did you deposited oils and salts on the finish that attract dirt and moisture making something rust more easily.

Oil and a soft rag at first, if that doesn't do it use oil and a coarse (think burlap) rag. If that doesn't do it use oil and a brass brush (very lightly). If that doesn't do it use oil and a COPPER (not copper plated zinc) penny to rub the rust off. From there wipe it down after use to prevent future rust.

To keep it from rusting so easily. Had the bluing not been present the entire gun would likely be covered in surface rust.

You don't buy a 10k paint job for a car if you're not willing to clean it and keep it covered when not in use. Likewise, you don't buy a blued gun if you aren't willing to at least wipe it down with an oily rag after touching it. If you know you're never going to do anything to maintain the finish of your gun, get it cerakoted. Take care of your toys, and your tools.

you must live in an area with high humidity and also some people's hands have more sweat

my guns can be left out all year wiped dry and not a trace of rust, my hands are also not sweaty like some people.

I would have to leave my gun on the wet ground in the garden to cause rusting.

There are 100 year guns with blued finishes still surviving without rust.

It all depends on the quality of the original blueing job and the care that you take with it.

Not so minor. Regular steel wool will embed in any pits and you will have double the rust.

i've had my blued Browning Hi-Power for over 30 years

anytime i take it out it gets a complete wiping down before i put it back

no visible rust anywhere - hoping it stays like that another 30 years

i also oil down all my firearms periodically

Rust = neglect......and bluing is a fine finish. Take some of the advice posted above in the future and your guns will thank you for it
