    Lytle Creek was hot yesterday!

Second range to the left? Tall steel set it off?

Looks like they had a quick response time and got it under control ( I hope )....the season is upon us for fire danger closures.

Good excuse for a controlled burn.
Burned fuel won't burn twice so...

I know. Logic is also illegal in this state and being a practitioner of logic has no value here.

I used to go to Lytle Creek a lot in the 2000's. The place was always either on fire or being flooded. One time I was there I pointed out to a ranger officer a couple fires in the distance. The range officer's response "Its just a controlled burn don't worry about it. After that whenever I saw smoke I didn't mention it.

For prevention, why not kill all the vegetation on the backstops/near steel targets on a regular basis?

How dare you apply logic to this obviously simple problem!!!

                  Well done my friend. 👍

Because the Forest Service will not allow that. Do they allow steel ammo there?

I've shot steel core there before but not at steel plates. I don;t know what the deal is there now. The FS did their own tests of ammo and found that copper fragments can get hot enough through friction to start fires though it is rare.

We used to start fires on ranges at Camp Pendleton all the time, especially using tracers. We'd call cease fire and have to put it out on our own. Good times trying to stomp out a fire with live ammo scattered all over that place. I tripped over a 60mm mortar round that was sticking out of the ground once while running down to put out one fire😵.
