That course of action seems like a bit much even if there were a crime going down. See a gun, empty mag into car. OTOH, 10-15 rounds into the driver's door and window is pretty good shooting compared to the average LEO.

Original source WFAA Dallas sez shooter is former Ranger, employed at this place:

Trident Response Group provides world-class safety, security, investigation, assessment & training services to the best families and companies in America.

So much for "If only he had taken a training course".

I'm usually very skeptical every time a veteran is involved and the media jump to PTSD, but given this guy's history that seems a distinct possibility. Coincidentally, the Uber driver is an Iraqi, out working in the middle of the night chasing that American dream. Sad story all around.

They need to take his guns away. Sees gun in passing car, dump mag into car with no context. How much can you see inside a passing car to make that sorta decision. No bueno.

How did he see something that fast, determine who was the person to shoot and why dump a mag? PTSD is better than just saying nutter. I think it's considered bad form to suggest that somebody could be in or be discharged military and not be smart or even sane. It happens though.

Am I the only one with a problem re: the media, citizens, and veterans alike lumping every dumb act by a veteran into the PTSD column? I understand its a real thing and it affects a lot of veterans, but come on.

This man has no business carrying a weapon. I don't care if is he is a veteran, PTSD, no PTSD, a ranger or God himself he is not making good enough decisions to carry a gun.

Maybe his PTSD got the better of him in this situation. If he was a ranger I'd assume he has the training to spot an aggressive attacker within a second.

Uber passenger had a gun in a case and was showing it to the Uber driver at the driver's request, but the passerby shot the Uber driver? What kinda neighborhood is this that someone would assume the driver was holding up the passenger?

I would like to know where they come up with, "Who may be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder". Unless I missed it there was no other mention of that, but it is just like the news media to try and show relationships to things regardless of the facts.

Edit: Just watched the video and I see it says the police are looking into whether the subject has PTSD. I still wonder where that came from. Sounds like a media question. Reporter: "Do you know if PTSD might have been an issue for the former soldier?" Cop: "We don't know but we will be looking into all possibilities."

The person helping me file for VA disability repeatedly asked me if I thought I might have PTSD, and said it didn't mean I wouldn't be able to own guns. [OMG! Get out of my head!] They mentioned that one of their clients is a uniformed SFPD officer, on regular duty, who is rated at 75% disabled due to PTSD.

Now I'm all for recognizing problems, getting people help, and getting them back to being a functioning member of society, but that seemed crazy to me.
