Just curious, about the WTB request.

I don't think I've seen many responses, saying "yay, bought it."
Are the posters hoping that they will get first dibs on their dream gun?
Do sellers check the WTB threads when they post looking for buyers?
I imagine that many of these guys are vary hard to find, and these people willing to pay a higher California premium.

I've noticed there are complaints about sellers creating a bidding war. Seems like most sellers take offers in order received, and pretty much stick to posted price to be fair.

Have you ever posted a WTB thread, if so, why?

Always check WTB ads before you list a gun for sale. You may save yourself the time of creating the WTS listing, uploading pics, waiting for the "I'll take it"...

Second, lot of people may have something they they would part with, but aren't actively trying to sell. Or you may find someone who is going to sell in the near future - now you've saved them the time of creating the listing.

I listed a WTB for rare Berettas recently. Got some good offers (not listed in the marketplace) but ultimately ended up with a 92G-SD instead (my holy grail Beretta). Now that I have it, I stopped bumping the thread.

If you bump your WTB thread (thereby reducing the position of everyone else's ads), just to say "hey everyone, I found one!" then you are d-bag. That's likely why you don't see updates.

Same thing the people who bump their WTS listings with "Sold", instead of just ceasing to bump the listing. "Hey everone, I sold it! You missed out!"

I do think that many who post in the WTB are just trying to be first in line for bargains. I've contacted a few, asked a fair (not high by anyone's terms except a reseller) price and have never received a counter offer or even heard a response.

Probably because people are respecting the "don't bump a now useless thread" rule. I see sellers do it a lot, and I think it's kind of a way to try and show the "low ballers" that they sold it to somebody else.

I've sold a fair amount with WTB ads. Much less BS to deal with, and a few of them were oddball not-very-desirable-to-most-people items.

I do. I use it, and view it. Last two items in a row (military trailer, and HK USC) I posted a WTB, and within a day or less someone messaged me with a good deal. I also check the WTB incase something that I have I dont mind selling pops up by someone else looking.

I actually think the want to buy section works better than the want to sell section.

You're usually dealing with just one or two people who may have the item that you want and no one's trying to start a bidding war against another member, as seen occasionally and the want to buy.
Also no one seems to be in a a big rush because if that was the case you would've found a quicker way to to get the item you want then waiting for someone to respond to your request.

The only thing I don't see it being useful for our those are those very hard to find firearms and parts. That's a real long shot but even then you just might find someone who has what you need... If you keep bumping it.
