🕵 Why do some folks rack the slide multiple times when clearing the gun? 👁

On a semi-auto pistol, typically, I'll remove the mag, rack the slide to eject anything, and then pull the slide back and hold/lock it to visually check that everything is clear. Sometimes, I'll just pull back the slide once and lock it. On occasion, I'll stick a finger in to make sure.

However, I've seen video of people dropping the mag, then racking the slide three or four (or more) times.

Really? Is that even necessary? Are they trying to be tacticool? Or are they just fidgety?

I'd rather slide it once and then visually look inside. I won't trust solely on the mechanics of the ejector.

I am with the poster above... to make sure there isn't anything in the chamber. But I don't know why you would need to do it 6 times or more (I have seen that myself). Though I don't have enough experience to really comment on that. Perhaps there is a good reason.

On a Marlin 60, you better do it more than once. Or you might end up with Glock knee.

Because you want to make sure that it is clear..
Police academies teach that you eject the mag and you work the action at least three times..Lock the slide back and use your finger check the chamber and mag well.. then you look away and finger sweep and check the mag well..

If you shoot a lot and some people do.. It becomes a habit and when they look they are just going through the motions without actually seeing.

This is way they do it a couple of times to make sure your attention is all there at the task at hand..

But I guess your a resident expert so you can just glance and your golden..
Everyone who checks a couple of times must be idiots compared to you..

Because the buttons count how many times they are pushed and that changes the urgency with which the the lights change or elevators come... everyone knows this.

It works awesome to close elevator doors too.
