    Armslist Scam Alert

I've listed a few items on armslist recently and got these emails from two different accounts after replying the item was still available.

    Hello,

I would like to proceed with the instant purchase immediately, Am ok with the condition and the price, I just got deployed from your area thats the reason i wont be able to meet to see it but i can contact my FFL holder and can you give me the contact info of you as the person i am about to purchase the firearm from? I can email msg a copy of my FFL for verification if you want. So let me know if you are ready to proceed in receiving the payment right away, it will be in form of a certified cashier check which will be mailed to you via USPS 2-3 working days delivery, So you ll have to ship to my FFL once the check is cleared. So please kindly get back to me with your details as requested below.

    Name to be on check
Full address to receive the check
    Mobile number
Final asking price of the fire arm.

    Regards,

I went though with one thinking it was legitimate, it sent me a check for more than what I asked for and a FFL with a doctored mailing address (the FFL was valid but the address didn't mach the verify system) I waited a few days for the check to clear (it usually takes a week or so for the bank to fully clear a check even if funds are available the next day) (it bounced) and all the while asking me to send the difference though a money gram.

Anyways just wanted to inform people, also the emails came only a few minuets after I listed the items so that might also be a tell off it's a scam.

Oldest scam in the book. This one should be somewhere in history books.

I have never trusted anything about armslist for some reason.....the entire site seems like a scammers paradise ( if one would actually fall for the obvious to most scams these days ). I'll stick to the marketplace and local shops. Good heads up for the rest of the armslist consumers though op...

this is what i got from a buyer..lol
OK. the price is okay for the condition of the weapon. I am located in Maryland and I relocated here 2 weeks ago. I relocated for work. I have other stuffs in my old apartment which I already made arrangement with a moving company to deliver to my new house here. My stuffs includes (refrigerator, gun wardrobe, kitchen items, grand piano, garage items, Big tires, baby stuffs, a Ruger SR40c 9mm, and a WW2 M1 carbine). A FFL from the pick up company will meet with you for pick up So you won't have to ship it. For the payment, I will be mailing you a cashiers check and I will as well add extra $100 to the asking price if you can hold it for me till check arrives and cashed. I will send you a copy of there FFL, though he would coming to pick up with a hard copy of the FFL so you will apply signatures where necessary. we can work that in due time after payment is through. If this is OK, please get in touch with your name and mailing address to send the cashiers check to. Include your phone # as well so I will be able to reach you without depending on Internet. Thanks
          so sellers beware!!

They wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

I have bought and sold several items on Armslist and always have at least one person send me that same email. Luckily, someone always steps and buys it face-to-face.

It is not only on Armslist, I get the same email when I sell tickets on Craigslist. I always go back and forth with them for a few anonymous emails to waste their time.

I had one guy send me an obvious fake Western Union money order for some computer parts with the same story. I told him the deal was off and he could pick up his fake check at the Carlsbad Police Station.

Maybe you should reply that you sold the gun but got payment of a very large cashiers check.

Now you're being deployed but if you could send that cashiers check to them and they could just cash it and send you back some money ... blah blah blah.

i always lie to the scammers and get them to send the fake cashiers check.

i have it sent not to my house but to the vacant house down the street using a fake name.

i just keep telling them i haven't received it, or it was stolen from my mailbox until they give up.

get them to waste a small bit of their money each time to have to mail it out and print up the fake check.

What suprises me was they had a FFL that was valid aside fron the wrong address, it seems like an actual transaction up until the point I got the check and was asked to send the difference. I haven't had issues with armslist in the past, just low ballers so I trated it as such until that point.
