    Manteca Range Re-Opened

For those that have not already heard, the Manteca Sportsmen, Inc. range is open. It was closed for several months due to flooding.

For those that have never been there, it is a nice place open to the public. Only $15 for the day includes the 12 station covered outdoor pistol range (7, 15 & 25 yds) and the 15(?) station outdoor rifle range. Some stations are covered and others are not. They have 50 & 100 yard stations. All the 50s are uncovered and most of the 100s are covered. They are closed Tuesdays.

You get a wristband so you can leave and come back on the same day. The only place nearby is Jimmy's which is a mini mart, bar, restaurant. They have really good burgers and sandwiches. I am told that people rave about the tri tip sandwiches on Yelp. It is a bit unique and kind of a dive but friendly. Lots of fishermen types.

Disclosure: I am a member but it is all non profit and they have lots of good programs that they promote.

Good to know, thanks. I wonder if we can hold Appleseed shoots there.

I believe the trap range is open also.
I am a member also and RSO there at times.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I went there a few times. Got into some back and forth with a member. That place is "locals only"

Yeah, I stopped in a few summers back after doing a PPT at Elite Arms (awesome and friendly 1000sq ft stocked store). I'm Chinese and was the only minority there shooting my JP. I got the heavy stare downs and was loudly talked about being a "city folk" here taking up lanes for regulars, I did not feel welcome.

You paid your fee, who cares what some knucklehead has to say.

Stare down? I often watch people I don't know at my club more closely, not because who they are but what they might be doing. Call it hyper vigilant, bordering on stare possibly (depending on your POV).

Sorry that you felt that way. I have never seen anything like that while I have been there. I see asians, blacks, hispanics at the range often. The whole rainbow. I have only met a few members. I know of at least one asian member. I took my wife who is filipino to a club dinner recently and she felt comfortable. Personally, I would be happy and willing to meet up for a range day. Any age, gender and/or race. PM me if you want.

I have only had one jerk at the range while going there. He informed me he did not have to do what I said and since I was the RSO I got the other full time employee to come over and have a talk with him. He was not a member. He was not happy and maybe that was CMBrowning?? If not sorry. If so you were in the wrong so just stay away if you do not want to follow range rules.
I have had all sorts of people shoot while I was there and only the one problem. When I am the RSO I will not allow people to be nasty to others. Just that simple. That has not come up yet. I also have not had the troubles in the above posts when I was there. We stay pretty busy just about every day. I have had quite a number of bay-area people shoot when I am there.

When I get back from Africa in June anyone who would like to shoot there can contact me if they are concerned and I will go out also. There will be no trouble unless you cannot follow simple rules the 2nd or 3rd time.

Manteca Sportsmen is my usual outdoor range. I enjoy it.
I have never had any issues with jerks but have seen plenty of safety issues - just newbies who are unaware or careless. The worst was a guy that started to walk out to the 50 yard range before a cease fire was called. He got about 15 feet in front of the firing line before many people started yelling at him to get back.

Does Manteca have steel rifle or pistol lanes?

                              Sure, it's easy.
Head out Hwy 4 past Disco Bay to I5.
South on I5, Exit Durham Ferry Rd. Head east until it turns into Airport Way.
