Sharing experience with Winchester 333 .22LR ammo

Out of a brand new Ruger 10/22 takedown, I shot about 70 rounds of this winchester 22 LR 36 grain hollow point copper plated ammo, and I probably had about 8-9 misfires, failures to eject, or feeding issues.

    I was really disappointed.

I'm not sure if the issue was the rifle or the ammo, but my instinct tells me it was the ammo. Considering this is rifle, I suppose the ammunition would perform even worse out of a handgun. I have a walther p22 which I will try it out of too.

Anyway, just curious if anyone else had issue with this ammo, or with a new ruger 10/22 takedown?

I no longer buy Winchester bulk in .22lr, not as many problems as you are quoting, but enough.

Yeah, that's a high ratio of misfires,
I think Blazer made by CCI is a better, more reliable low-priced .22 Long rifle ammo.

Thank you for sharing the ammo report though.

I rarely shoot 22lr but I had the same experience last year.

Remington nylon 66 and Marlin takedown both had issues.

Bulk .22 is usually less reliable, nothing new there. It's usually only an issue in semi-autos in my experience, it probably works fine in a revolver or manual loading rifle.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

My Ruger Single Ten cylinder is tightly toleranced.
There were times where I would have to force the Winchester round in.
Minimags fit fine so I switched.

When I was an Appleseed instructor, I tried all the bulk .22lr that the local Turners carried and my conclusions are below.

              GOOD
              Federal Champion
              CCI Blazer

              MEDIOCRE
              Anything Winchester

              DO NOT USE
              Remington Golden Bullets

I never tried Aquila but everything I hear is that it belongs up with the Federal and CCI. Maybe even above.

I guess I've been lucky. My buckmark has eaten everything that I've put through it. I did need to clean it for some various brands (like the Remington).

^ Yeah same here. A full 333 round box through an already-dirty Buckmark & it worked fine.

I have an AR-22 that likes Winchester and Remington 36 gr plated the best of the 5-6 types I have tried. I think there is no 'best' or 'worst' ammo, until you get to talking about a specific firearm. I have 2 10/22's and they each prefer a different type of ammo.

I've got a couple boxes of 333 count Winchester 36 gr. and will shoot some through my VERY early pre-warning model 10/22 this weekend and report back.

My experience as well. Sold off all the remaining Winchester bulk 22 I had last year. The gun eats literally anything else, but these Winchester rounds are garbage.

Golden bullets are not as bad as people think. I can get them to run fine in my machine guns. The thunderbolts are not as good.

                            Winchester is junk.

Aguila is reliable but it spits a lot of residue and gas when running suppressed. I stopped using it.

CCI is my standard. The Gemtech stuff is what I use in just about everything.

The 10-22 with a kidd barrel hates winchester and federal bulk, tolerates remington, and loves cci. The buckmark will eat anything.
