    Spotting Scope

I want a spotting scope which will allow me to see .223 / 5.56 bullet holes in a target from 25-200 yards.
I'm trying to keep it under $100 and currently this is on the top of my list:
Celestron 52238 C70 Mini Mak Spotting Scope

Do you have any other recommendations?

It's alright, but not great. Certainly has the mirage people were talking about and the tripod it came with sucks so I used a tripod I already had instead. It's zoom is kinda blurry and not great either.

I'm returning it to Amazon, I'll deffinitly just put the money towards a better spotting scope.

Looks like a nice spotting scope.

Celestron Mini Maks bring portability and versatility; the Maksutov optical design is recognized for being compact, easy to use, and applicable for both terrestrial (land) and astronomical use. C70 Mini Mak is a small but powerful spotting scope that includes a tabletop tripod which has built-in slow motion controls, a

Go onto Optics planet. go the category "spotting scopes." Then, use the filter to put in your price range. Then sort by review rankings. One of the top 5 will be the one you want.

By the way, a .22 bullet hole at 200 yards is tough to see, even with a top of the line scope. You might want to try those targets that leave rings around the hole so you can spot your hits better. That should help you spot your hits.

give us a range report on the scope you select. Good luck sir.

Good luck at that price point.
Do you have a $39 scope on your rifle also?

Likely it will be 100 dollars wasted.

I just got in to shooting last August, I haven't even been on a 200 yard range yet and I don't plan to drive hours away to any longer distance range anytime soon.
So while I want this Bushnell Trophy XLT 20-60x 65mm, it's kinda overkill for me. I want a spotting scope that isn't huge and is a decent price which provides decent quality.

                $100.00??? Good luck.

I was recently at the range and a couple of gents next to me had one of those Big 5 spotting scopes and were trying to sight in their rifles with iron sights at 100 yards.
They could not see the holes with their spotter.

Good glass is something that cost. But...once you have sat behind a nice scope or spotter....you will never go back to a cheap scope.

I use Leupold MK4 spotter and can easily see .22 holes on white targets at 300 yards.
And the MK4 is only considered a mid range spotting scope.

I have a Bushnell spotting scope like you show. I leave it at home since I can see better with my Leupold VX3 4.5X14X40 scope or better yet with one of my Nightforce NXS 5.5X22X56 scopes.

The scope you have is a so-so scope and until you use a couple of scopes/binos/spotting scopes with real quality glass you will not know the difference.

Sometimes just walking up to the target is better than a cheaper spotting scope that will disappoint you.

Not putting you down. Most of us have had to learn by starting with cheaper stuff and then getting better quality as we grew into the sport.

Just have your wife/girlfriend run out to your target after every shot so she can send you pictures with her call phone.

I second what Sir Toast recommended. I shoot smallbore competition, which is shooting .22 LR out to 100 yards, and I use a Kowa spotting scope and I can easily see the .22 at 100 yards, but at 200 yards, even with a 20-60 zoom lens, picking out a .22 hole is next to impossible. BTW, my Kowa spotting scope retails for $750.00. Its not so much the scope, but the atmospheric factors that limit your ability to see such a small hole at that distance. You have sunlight, dust and mirage just to name a few that come to mind.

Get a Vortex crossfire scope and some shoot-n-C targets. That works for me.
Just got the 4x12x40 for $119.

Yeah, skip the budget spotting scope. A good rifle scope & those Shoot-n-C type paper targets & I can see impacts at 300 yds. Those targets are much more expensive than plain paper but I think they're worth it. I still use a spotting scope for milsurps but I still use those reactive paper targets.
