    Making a cannon

Sit back and relax and enjoy this video of a guy making a brass cannon on a metal lathe:

He built the cannon in New York and fired it in Ohio.

Now presumably this cannon of caliber greater than .50 is not prohibited by Federal law, because it's a muzzleloader and Federal law almost doesn't even recognize muzzleloaders as firearms (you can buy them mail order interstate without an FFL, for example).

But what about state law? Is this legal in California? I'm surprised it's legal in New York, but just because one of the most popular makers on the web posts a video of himself doing something on YouTube, it doesn't mean it's legal.

I remember some Norco residents had full sized muzzle loading cannons displayed in their front yards (chained down, of course to prevent theft).

My Dad was told that even his small scale Civil War cannon would be illegal if the rear fuse hole was drilled through completely but I am unsure what the actual bore size is on it.

So by that logic, every percussion black powder revolver would be illegal since the nipples holes are drilled through the rear of the cylinder

I think the issue is the caliber. Less than .50 caliber is okay.

Does breech loading vs muzzle loading make any difference?

Legal in Cali. Mythbusters made and fired one on Alameda. A cannonball got away from them and went through a berm and punched a hole in a house in a nearby neighborhood.

As I said "i was unsure of the caliber" and he was told this by a local law enforcement officer so take that into consideration. God I LOVE Cal Guns.

It doesn't matter if it is breech or muzzle loading. I have a 30mm barrel that is waiting to become a breech loader.
