Whats your estimate on the cost of ammo after 2018?

I wonder how much a box of 9mm or .45 will cost after a few years?

what if a box of 45 retails for $50? only the rich will be able to continue

it might take a few years, but Im guessing the prices will become unreasonable, then they will add gun licensing for all firearms.

I suspect it won't change much. The LGS will continue to sell at retail and higher and Walmarts will still be discounted.

Unless there is another panic-driven ammo shortage, cost will remain relatively consistent with what it is now. The big problem we'll have is variety and choice -- especially for specialty ammo. For example, I don't imagine too many LGSs will be stocking ammo cans of PPU Garand ammo. Stock up on stuff like that while you can.

We already pay licensing fees for our firearms.

Agreed. Specialty ammos, that aren't normally stocked at traditional brick and mortar shops, will have to be special ordered and will likely carry an additional premium. Already expensive specialties like SW500 magnum loads could see a hefty bump in price if the LGS has to hunt for them and then special order for a customer.

Now is the time to stock up.

Prices at the LGS will probably stay about the same. The big downside is that we won't be able to order in bulk via mail order anymore. That is going to hurt.

LGS prices are already insane compared to Walmart prices.

I'm guessing 25% to 50% mark up . Some Lgs are 10 to 15% over Internet prices and the online ordering is the only thing keeping the price were the price is now . When people are ordering cases of ammo and it's taking up floor space . The Lgs are going to charge for it . Look at how some Lgs already charge for Firearm storage after the 10 days . This is going to be interesting. Stock up now .

That's why we make our own and then we have Archery equipment to back that up.

Could also see the law of unintended consequences happen. Everyone will stock up now, and then nobody will be buying ammo next year. Most ammo manufacturers are already selling at dirt cheap prices - and with CA out of the mix next year, one of their biggest markets will go poof. Law of supply and demand - so we may even see prices come down. Wishful thinking - but it is in the realm of possibility...

I cast and swage, have a ton of lead stored, powder coat stored. I've horded powder and primers, I'm covered for the next 30 years or more.

to be honest, LGS charging for firearm storage fee after the 10 day wait isn't that surprising to me.

after hearing of stores from LGS i've visited where some people literally left guns there that they either had shipped in, or bought and had it sitting there for months, that is space that the LGS can't use, and have to keep track of. And potential lost sale (if it was an item that was bought from their inventory)

who buys guns and just forgets about them? the person dying i can understand but any other situation... mind boggling to me.

I see costs going way up, retailers can now charge whatever they want, they will be a monopoly of sorts, especially once they're on the same page with pricing. I forsee $50 a box for 9mm within a few years.

Should still be reasonable in Reno.
