Tumey hills to the right of the gate is burnt to a crisp. I spoke to the ranger he said there was a group shooting on Saturday between 12_4 pm aiming at a propane tank and truck tailgate in the dry weeds. Flames! Responsible party called it in and a swath of fire suppression units including helicopters were needed to calm the burning hills. No clue to as how many acres were burned, maybe 1000?? Place smelled like a big campfire on Sunday the day after the burn. Hefty fine for those responsible and they will be held accountable On the good note, we were still able to set up targets and aim, plus the blm ranger gave me a map. Sorry for the potato-phone picture. *More pictures*! 'm adding a medium sized extinguisher to my rucksack, it's worth it!!

New shooters struggle at using actual targets, they seem to just grab things at their home they don't mind destroying. I wish this was better addressed before it leads to less open shooting areas."Bangarang Peter!"Comment

I enjoy shoot propane tanks and with a road flare behind them.
Of course this is in an area where there is no fire risk!
Truck tail gate---forget it. TV's, computers etc --Forget it. On the ranch I once shot an old lawn mower while it was running. No glass and ALWAYS pick up the targets/trash when done on our own place or somewhere else.
Not a new shooter. Been shooting since the 1950's and never had a problem. Always be careful and clean up. Never shoot stuff in dry grass that may spark.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

With all the rain we've had I was wondering why they closed the gates for fire season on the same date as when we were in a drought. I guess now I see why they kept the same date.
Last time a was there I packed out half a truck bed of garbage. Including a satellite dish and a few other large pieces of metal that were all shot up.Comment

Whoops, here we go. Looks like there were two reports of fires in the Tumey Hills area that day.

If the "shooters" drove to the base of hill to set targets. It is possible that their vehicle started the fire.

A clown just this morning set a "Cat" fire in Riverside. Admitted to it during a TV interview. Box Springs area, No of 60 fwy.
Paraphrasing his conversation with a talking head
"I pulled off the side of the road into the weeds for just a few seconds to make a U-turn. Next thing I know, "WHOOSH". Fire all around my car!"
If you keep the vehicle moving it lessens the risk. But if you stop, the weeds stand back up and remain in constant contact with the Cat.

I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

If it's the same spot I'm thinking of, that area is closed to traffic year round. Unless they cut the fence, there's no way they could drive to the base of that hill.If the "shooters" drove to the base of hill to set targets. It is possible that their vehicle started the fire.
