That's really impressive. Are there any other shooting teams like this within other agencies?

A little too close for comfort with that last cigar shot.

I liked the action shooting section for the Sheriff's range. Looked like the rookie was using a 6" Colts Officer's model.

When I was in the LASD Academy back in 78, we had an instructor that could light stick matches at 25 yards with a 4" Smith and Wesson Model 15. He could also cut playing cards in half at that distance. Every time. He was amazing.

He was old then, and finally had to retire at age 60 (mandatory retirement age then). He came back to the range as a volunteer for several years after that.

I saw him shoot a Thompson SMG (.45) full auto at a bullseye target. One trigger pull, 30 rounds in one big hole obliterating the 10 ring.

He was my favorite instructor. Deputy "Pappy" Benton. Always in my memory. Things he taught me kept me alive and got me thru multiple gunfights.

I was lucky to have an instructor that was LASD who was on the olympic team and worked with Weaver. Super sound. Technically accurate and no nonsense. Glad he still makes the effort to teach and some of the millennial students are just unteachable.
