    Muzzle device question

This was my first AR that I bought when bullet buttons first became acceptable.
I have converted it back and forth between featured w/bb, and "featureless" in the seven years I have owned it.

That being said, I am going featureless one last time for good, and want to be compliant with the new laws as currently proposed. The one thing I was not sure about was the flash hider/muzzle brake.
Today I would have bought this with a 16" barrel, but didn't know better back then, so I am stuck with a 6" "barrel extender". As this is the last potentially "featured" item on the rifle, I would like to get a second opinion on the legality of this device.

Does this look Kosher, yay or nay?

It looks like a crush washer behind the FH, so I assume I can use a ~6" compensator on my existing barrel?

I thought they had to be permanently affixed/welded to count as "barrel length"

They do. If that device is removeable by unscrewing it you have a federal and state felony in your hands, even if the device is attached. It must be pinned and welded. If not, remove the upper from the lower and seek help to remedy.

If there is dark spot at 6 o'clock position, it is pinned and welded.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

Prices on AR's are cheaper than they have been since 2007....

Buy a new barrel....I might suggest a non threaded version unless you will wear hearing protection 100% of the time

Two options- colt type mil spec

Upgrade to a match type / grade barrel
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

                        Ok, more work to do.
I was thinking about this from PSA.

                        And have this pinned/welded

I assume I can talk them into this prior to shipping.

And I seriously doubt PSA does pin & weld jobs anyhow.

So you need to make sure the feedramps on the barrel you are buying match the upper.

                            Check this out for Featureless

This store is selling these three AR's with flash hiders because they have made the AR featureless with either maglocks or featureless stocks:

Is this guy right, he doesn't say anything about the flash hider being welded or pinned but the AR has all the evil features but is made featureless by one way or the other??

Featureless stock with a flash hider is NOT a featureless rifle.

                              Features include any ONE of:

                              Telescoping or folding buttstock
                              Pistol grip or thumbhole buttstock
                              Flash hider
                              Vertical forward grip
Grenade launcher (also happens to be a DD, but it's listed so...)

The flash hider/comp ONLY needs to be pinned and welded if you are relying on the device to bring the barrel length to 16".
If the barrel is 16" (actually 16.5") without a muzzle device installed, it does not need to be pinned and welded.

There WAS a reference in the now-withdrawn AW regs that mentioned permanent attachment for muzzle devices that were used to bring the OAL to 30", such as on Tavor and similar designs. Under current law, permanence was NOT required to meet 30" and I suspect this is one of the changes we will see when the regs are re-released.
