    PRC?

I know it's available in California. Good luck finding one, though.

Yes they are available and legal (they come with a 10rnd mag). I purchased mine in november from a place called Master Campers up in norcal. Shipped it down to san diego no problem. Like it was posted above, good luck finding them in stock...check the ads here I know I've seen several listed in the past few weeks.

They are available here. They have a different muzzel device that is more of a muzzel break than a flash hider and a 10-rd magazine. I do not know if actually functions like a break, but it is modified as not to qualify as a true flash hider...whatever that means.

When it comes to carbines personally I prefer an Off List AR15 Type Rifle. With a maglock or bullet button device they are legal provided your lower receiver is not named on the banned weapons list (their are tons of posts on this subject so I won't repeat it all here), and they can be removed in a minute or two should you move out of state or need to sell it to someone out of state.

Don't get me wrong. I love Springfield's M1A rifles. I just prefer the longer one to the Socom and Scout models and I use it for a different kind of shooting. I slap a Leupold LR/T Mark 4 Scope on their and use it for precision long range sooting.

The Scout and the Socom lack the accuracy of the the full length M1A yet weight a lot. The AR is so much lighter than them, and the low recoil of the 5.56mm NATO is better suited for run and gun type shooting than the .308. So if I am going to spend $1K on a carbine length rifle I would go with an AR. But if I wanted a semi-auto precision rifle, the M1A would be my top choice.

Just my opinion...I am sure plenty of people feel differently.
