    rifle cleaning rods

    Hello to all,

I just mounted a nice scope to my newly acquired Savage Model 10 rifle.

I just found out some how I lost my rifle cleaning rod and need a new one. Can anyone recommend me a nice one for a 308 caliber?

I was thinking on a plain stainless steel non-coated. What do you guys/gals think? Is there one better?

Get an Otis kit which has a cable and not a traditional cleaning rod.

I have the otis cable kit as well but some have mentioned theirs no replacement for a good coated rod like the deweys. I'd like to know what everyone recommends as well

I have been involved in target shooting for over 40 years, and the go to cleaning rod for target shooters is usually the Dewey cleaning rods.

try using a bore snake in that caliber - much easier.

Bore snakes are much easier than trying to fenagle the precut patches thru the otis setup. Than again I've only used my otis kit on handguns and not rifles. I figure once I get a nice bolt action it will be am order of Dewey rods on lockup.

I have had good luck with Tipton coated one piece rods, and a few of the others mentioned. Of course you will use a good fitting bore guide. Also, Parker-Hale style jags seem to work the best. Lastly, make a sturdy case out of PVC pipe with a threaded cap on one end, and a glued plug on the other. The rod will be well protected.

I like Pro Shot products but it's just, like, my opinion man...any quality brand, one piece rod with a good guide will do the trick.

Winchester makes a nice kit ($29.99) that includes a cable as well as brass coated rods and lots of other goodies.

Tipton carbon fiber hands down. One of my best firearm related purchases.

I'm not sure if the others recommending Tipton are referring to this one that I bought,
but it's nice and handles calibers from 22 to 45.

                            just went to Turner's

                            Hi guys,

Just got back from Turner's and decided to buy a "Bore Tech" one piece rod.
They only had two types ( Bore Tech or Pro Shot ) both looked well made with nice rotating handles.

Turner's had some Tipton products but the rods wasn't one of them.

Anyway this is what I got and be done with it.

Thank you all for your advice. It's well appreciated.
