That is crazy. You use iTrader as a negative if someone doesn't show up for a PLANNED meet. I have never given anyone a neutral or negative iTrader, much less for that.

For posting? What the hell. I have had folks say "I will take it" and we talk and it just wasn't going to work out. Visa versa. Give and take.

I don't think there's a documented or a generally accepted method. I've always PM'd instead of posting on the page while some others posted "I'll take it" after my PM. And the seller still sold to me.

I've ran into couple sellers who told me to post "I'll take it" after we ironed out the deal. Probably wanted to hold me accountable in public. So I did. No problem.

When I was a seller, I didn't have preference of one over the other.

Can forward the PM to the mods as proof, no?

I personally always C&P sellers own description of item for sale in post with

              ..........and "PM SENT".

Then immediately send the PM which also includes a C&P of sellers own description.

Even then I've had dicks back out of a deal, after 3 PMs back and forth, with the description clearly as the header. With claims of "Sorry, thought you meant another item I had for sale. The one you want is already SPF to someone else." And other lame excuses.

I just make a mental note that the seller that pulls that crap, is a low integrity douche with no self respect. Who's word is worthless.

If the seller doesn't say "don't post in the thread" I always post in the thread. Also, if I'm intent on buyingthe item, I post in the thread. I figure if I'm buying the item, the seller will throw in the thread for free.

Loubot10, you've missed OP's point of the question. OP is already aware, as I am, that you can say "I'll take it" in the thread or PM, per the rules that you quoted.

The point of OP question is, what do forum members generally prefer when the ad doesn't specify whether to say "I'll take it" in the post or PM.

And when I said there are no documented or generally accepted method, I'm talking about the members' preferences.

I guess it's too old fashioned, but how about we

                      FOLLOW THE RULES?

"*BUYERS, send questions or offers to Seller using Private Messages*"

Posting taking messages is tolerated, as in you won't get dinged for it, but the ONLY OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED way to make a buy offer is via PM.

If a seller does anything but take offers in the order they were received via PM, he needs to leave and never come back.

The best way to handle it is the post an un-conditional "I'll take it" in the thread then send a pm to hash out the details. Anything less gives the seller wiggle room.

I think that rule is addressing "offers" as in "hey, you're asking $500 but I'll give you tree fiddy" kind of offers.

When I post "I'll take it" I mean (and always assume others mean) I agree to the complete terms of the OP. If I'm looking for lower price, different location etc etc, I will send private message for that.

I suppose I could clarify above even more. "I will send private message for that...

...and don't expect my timestamp etc to mean anything because I am negotiating a change in terms at that point. If someone agrees to take it on sellers original terms during that time, then I have no claim to dibs etc."

For OP situation, I'd say his pm with unequivocal I'll take it should have won out. It didn't this time, so just chalk it up to a loss. Always be a good seller yourself, expect the same from buyers and sellers alike but don't get too bent out of shape when a transaction falls through.

Should pm not post. Posting moves for sale item to top of the forum. Should not happen seller is a screw up.
