    Perceptions of popularity vs. reality

    I was perusing the latest available ATF production reports which are for year 2015. I was actually surprised at some of the realities that were there to be seen as far as actual production numbers of various manufacturers. It can be assumed that manufacturers were only producing what they knew they could sell as 2015 was a kind of lean year.
    Some total Pistol productions for example:

    Sig Sauer- 459,655
    S&W- 989,853 (plus another 274,000 Revolvers on top of that)

    Not what I would have guessed as far as "real" popularity.

    Some total Rifle numbers:

    Sig Sauer- 37,563
    S&W(M&P15 mostly I'd assume)- 209,180
    And what threw me for a loop:
    Henry Repeating Arms- 306,607

    I think our own preferences can distort our views as far as what is really popular and what's not. I would not have imagined Henry lever guns outselling Both Sig and S&W AR's put together.
