Can security guards open carry?

Hello all. Just wondering if security guards can open carry. I saw a gentleman walking down the street with uniform and a side arm. I couldn't tell if it was loaded or not.

Got me thinking about the legality of it. Just didn't seem right. I haven't been able to find anything on the subject. Maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places.

Any info would help.

Yes but must meet 2 things. 1) they have an exposed carry firearms permit issued by BSIS. 2) Whoever the company client is that have authroized it for that property.

Yes...as long as he has a valid BSIS guard card and firearm permit.

With the proper licensing from BSIS, yes on duty and to and from work.

On duty directly to and from work. Not allowed to open carry in between, like making a pit stop at gas station, bank, grocery store, etc.

Guard card and gun card. Technically you're only supposed to open carry at the property you are protecting which is where the insurance covers you. Some armed guards travel from location to location and don't clock out for breaks so they are still on duty and make pit stops at Starbucks or a grocery store to get food. As long as you are in uniform I don't question it.

Honestly, looked at the dude twice, and it didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. Without going into details, he just looked wrong. I shouldn't have judged, but did.

I wanted to pull over and engage in a conversation. I didn't because I really didn't know how to approach the situation.

Just caught my eye, and here I am. Answer was pretty much answered.

Sucks that citizens can't apply the same way.

I worked part time a few years ago for a PPO. I worked both stationary and patrol. Needed to make a stop during the shift to use the facilities. In walks a local officer - he greeted me professionally and we both did our stops. If you're acting in a professional manner, most officers won't mind. The sites that have security usually have a decrease in the need for law enforcement dispatches to those sites - makes their shift a bit less hectic.
