    Question about 30-06 ammo

Is there a manufacturer of 30-06 ammo that loads a 130 gr. bullet?

Sounds kinda light for 30-06. Out of curiosity, why you want a bullet that light for 30-06?

Well, I'm loaded up with 150's right now but that's really a lot more than I need for deer. The 130 gr. bullets are plenty 'nuff for deer hunting and the recoil would be a lot nicer, not that 150 gr. recoil is bad. Really, I'm just curious, I'd load my own if I wanted them bad enough. Remember, the 270 Rem. uses the same case as the '06 and is only .038" smaller. The 270 typically uses a 130 gr. bullet

I see. I don't hunt,so the thought hasn't crossed my mind. Well, all those frangible bullets are usually lighter, so I'd imagine they'd be within that range. Not sure how good they are for hunting though. They're marketed for self-defense. Here's one of those:

I also found a few more rounds with a 130gr bullet:

I've no idea how good they are, never tried them. The smallest 30-06 bullets I used were 150gr.

Personally, I won't order from Sportsmans Guide. But there are only 3 brands of bullets I will use.

Here's 3 of then in the grain ranges you are interested in:

            BARNES 130 TSXBT
            BARNES 130 TIPPED TSXBT
            BARNES 140 MPGFG

            NOSLER 125 BALLISTIC TIP

            SIERRA 125 SPT PRO-HUNTER
            SIERRA 135 HPBT MATCHKING

Check out their individual websites for additional information.

That 135 gr. HPBT looks interesting, I'll check into it, thanks for the lead.

I did some checking and it appears the GK bullet is a real game killer if you don't try to push it too fast, otherwise you risk jacket separation. So I'll stick with the 150 gr. at 2800 fps, that'll gitter done.

CA Deer are pretty small compared to other western states. That's why I like a .257 Roberts consisting of a Nosler 115 gr. Partition Spitzer Bullet loaded with 43.5 grams of RL-19 powder. This gives me 2672 fps. It really screams down range.

My favorite mid-size game caliber has switched from the old standby 30-06 consisting of a Nosler 168 gr. Partition Bullet loaded with 57.0 grams of IMR 4350 powder. This gives me 2832 fps.

I now prefer a .280 for deer and antelope sized game. It consists of a Nosler 150 gr. Partition Spitzer Bullet loaded with 51.5 grams of IMR 4350 powder. This gives me 2870 fps.

For large sized elk, caribou, or moose, I like my Weatherby .340 magnum loaded with a 200 gr. Nosler Partition Spitzer loaded with 83.5 grams of AA 3100 Powder. Which gives me 3017 fps.

In retrospect, this should have been more appropriately placed in the Ammo and Reloading section.
