    Federal Hydra Shok Question

I picked up some Hydra Shok 9mm and noticed on the case there appears to be what looks like cannelure marks on the case about 1/3 to 1/2 way down. I've never noticed this on other ammunition before.

My question(s) are is this normal? If so, what is the purpose? Is it to prevent setback?

Hydrashok has unreliable expansion, it's been replaced with HST.
Use that stuff for practice and function check instead.

Yes the case cannelure is normal, I've seen it on a few different nickel plated loads, and you're right it's probably a secondary step to measure against bullet setback. However I believe neck tension is the primary factor against that.

The funny thing is that Hydrashok still costs more than HST. What gives?
Partisanship is cancer. Glory to the USA, glory to Ukraine, and I hope that someday Russia is free and the normal people have a voice.

That actually makes sense if you think about it. They probably don't sell anywhere near as much of it as they do HST's...so it's more expensive to make.

And I'm just guessing here. No idea if that's why it costs more. But it's definitely the older design. HST's are awesome. GET YOU SOME!

I have tested my HydraShoks' and they ALL expanded wonderfully. little lost weight, beautiful pedals peeled back, almost doubled in size.

I have 100's of Hydrashok rounds in all calibers I have and feel confident they will perform when needed.

I've seen the hydrashok for sale at about .30cpr many times, thought about picking some up just for function checking but decided against it.

It seems a better idea to test your actual SD load. Don't clean your gun for awhile, 500 sounds reasonable, test at least 100 rounds of your SD ammo in your SD mags. If everything functions perfectly then you're probably good to go.

Ammo Quest's test would agree that Hydra Shoks are not as good as HST's...

Cut to 3:44 for the summary.

Technology moves on and the HST's are the superior round.

I believe those are to prevent the bullet from being pushed back in the case...could be wrong though!
