9mm AR pistol for exposed armed security?

Curiosity has me wondering if anyone knows the legalities, either with CA law or penal codes or BSIS regulations, of carry a 9mm AR pistol for an exposed armed guard position (assuming the person has qualified for the 9mm for his/hers exposed firearms permit). I know one concern would be an exposed trigger, but if one were to get a kydex or other type of retention system that blocks the trigger and retains the firearm on the guard, would it be legal?

It is kind of tough to get that one passed the inspector. You may want to get a glock customized by Weaton with trigger guard removed. Send that to Tooth & Nail armory to cut the slide for red dot sights.
That will make a nice open carry.
Somebody post pics if you find these fine examples of craftsmanship.

        Why?

Whats wrong about a 9mm pistol in a secure holster?

What happens when the security guard goes "hands on" with a suspect ?

What does he do with the 9mm AR?

I wouldn't trust my life with a 9mm AR pistol lol.

Get something proven like a MP5K-PDW with red-dot sight, and a glock 27 for back up. Then train at least 400 rounds every night at the range.

Handgun needs to comply with CA assault weapons laws.

An AR style pistol (regardless of caliber) will need to operate using a fixed 10 round magazine that is contained in the firearm and can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or is welded/epoxied/riveted into the firearm's magazine well.

BSIS regulations requires handguns to be openly carried in a belt holster.

I understand the AW ban and the new BB ban, I've trained with a system that works fairly well to do mag changes with a respectable time (of course not as nearly as fast as with a standard free state mag release). Just wondering if there is any legal repercussions of doing so with either LE or BSIS.

Well the line of work is not of a standard security guard position. The work is in the armored truck business so detaining or getting hands on with suspects aren't a real concern.

And nothing's wrong with a 9mm pistol, this is merely just a question on legalities or issues regarding the law and BSIS.

Did you have any issues with LE or civvies? I would assume it would turn heads and cause some questions to arise.

                        AFAIK...
There are no CA laws that restricts the type of (non-assault weapon) pistol allowed for armed security guards.

However, the security company can restrict it and the security company's insurance carrier may have issues with it.
So, you need to inquire with your security company and their lawyers.

Also, when you qualify/renew your BSIS gun card, the BSIS qualified security trainer can disqualify it (no reason needed, it's up to the whim of the instructor).

                        Side note:
If you install an arm stabilizing brace to the AR pistol, it may run afoul CA SBR laws (BSIS or any LEO/DA's Office can declare it a SBR, it will vary depending on the individual and DA's Office) and BSIS regulations regarding armed security with long guns.

Problem is, if it has a detachable magazine (and you'd be a fool NOT to run a detachable magazine for security) it would be an AW, which would not be legal for non-LEO.
