    Anyone here own an STI?

My father recently got himself an STI 1911, and we went out and fired it together. I gotta say, it was an incredible piece of hardware. i enjoyed shooting it so much that i figured i'd price one for myself eventually.

... Not that many out there. Checked in a few of the normal places, and the selection was QUITE scarce. Am i missing something here? Is there any reason that it should be so hard to find? I guess i am asking if anyone out there has any horror stories with the manufacturer that should keep me away from it. Or better yet, confirmation that it is as good as it seemed, and i should get one if i like it

Thanks for the feedback, if anyone out there has had one before!

They are great guns and they have good customer service. They are hard to find because they are not on the CA handgun roster. People that own them in CA usually do not sell them. They do however pop up now and then in the used handgun market place. You can expect to pay about $1000 over their MSRP is they are in good condition.

I actually just sold one a week ago to help fund a Wilson Combat. My STI was a great shooting gun. Very smooth action.

Does your father live out of state? I'm assuming you live in CA?

Crazy af considering he also bought a wilson combat earlier that week.
Must have a considerable amount of cash flow.

If your father is out state he would be a very nice father to buy one and gift it to you. That's probably your best way to acquire one otherwise they pop up from time to time.

STI is an Austin TX based manufacturer. They are famous for the double stacked 2011, not so much Thier 1911. You are basically looking at a race gun and it will.cost you. Even Thier entry level is pretty steep. I've always wanted an edge or hex but my pocket book can't afford one.

Guess you did not see YSR's 30K Shotgun Thread?

YSR tried to claim he only spent 15K on it. Those guns start at 30k.

I hope to retire with a big check someday.

There's no way I'm sifting through thousands of YSR threads.

I have two STI Trojans. One in 45 and another in 40. I have used both in USPSA competition and they make excellent pistols. The Trojan line is inexpensive for a 1911 and runs fantastic out of the box. They gave up on California a while back so they are not common here.

Agreed, happy I got mine when I did. Turns a lot of heads to see an sti of any level anywhere.

I also have an STI Spartan that I got before the end of See in 2014. It was my first 1911...Wish I would have gotten a Trojan. The Spartan frame is actually made by Armscor. So it is more like a high end RIA even though it was the entry level STI.
