    Any Uberti 1871 owners?

    Hey guys, and gals.
Jr. has had a thing for a Uberti 1871. As his 18th is coming up soon, I'd like some feedback on them.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Kinda surprised that he doesn't want something else, but its what he wants.

I bought a 1873 Custer 7th Calvary edition from gun genie and it's pretty solid. Bought a 45acp cylinder to put in it too.

I have a 7 1/2 barreled Uberti 1871 in 38 special. I personally rather like it but it does have its quirks.

Purchased it brand new approx 4-5 years ago. I've put perhaps 1000 rounds through it, all lower pressured factory ammo. Accuracy is decent but be aware that the sights are pretty poor. Has some nice weight in the hand in my opinion, heavier than my 4 inch GP100 or 6 inch Colt Officer's Match. It's basically just a fun range gun for me.

Finish was decent in my opinion, it does have some wear marks where you would expect on the cylinder and some on the hammer but it has held up well otherwise.

The two issues I have had with the gun are the loading gate screw backing out in use and the wedge retaining screw doing the same. The loading gate screw I fixed with a bit of loctite and I just manually check on the wedge screw periodically when shooting. I rarely shoot more than 50 rounds through that gun in one trip but will need to adjust the screw at least once.

I have an Uberti 1872 Open Top in 45 colt. Initially, I had problems with the wedge moving causing the cylinder to lock up. I sent it back to Stoeger for warranty work. It's okay now, but I should have bought Cattleman. They don't have that pesky wedge.

I also have an 1872 Open Top but in .38 Special. Solid, tight, accurate gun but the sights are the worst on any handgun I own (except for maybe my North American Guardian). Love it though.

I have a Uberti 1851 Navy. Considered swapping from BP to regular cartridges and once I saw the prices for conversion...figure I would just buy a regular SAA. Still fun to shoot and take a change of pace!

For Cowboy Action shooting you point shoot them...sights are cosmetic only! I have a pair, 1871 and 1872 very close in builds.

I dont have that model, but the brand is good to go IMO.

Cant go wrong with an Uberti. They make some fine pistols.

I have a Cimarron (made by uberti) Us Army Model 3 Schofield copy. One of my fav pistols. Such nice quality.

Picked up a "rooster shooter" today made by Uberti. Copy of John Wayne's (rooster Cogburn) colt single action in .45LC he uses in most of his films and the one in True Grit. Also shot dead accurate and feels like a nice quality made gun.

I'll second this. The Uberti made single action revolvers have been top quality for about the last 5-10 years. Pietta made revolvers lagged behind, but now seem to have caught up with Uberti, so both are now excellent.

Plus with so many Cowboy Action shooters using them, parts are generally readily available, if ever needed. Plus it is generally easy to find cowboy gunsmiths who are very experienced with Italian-made single actions, once again if ever needed.
