Oh boy, does my shooting hand hurt!!!!

Fellas: I shoot primarily .45 1911's. I've slowed down a bit these days as my shooting hand has lost a lot of it's strength and is sore most of the day. So it has to be either arthritis or holding on to that sucka while firing. No problem with my non firing hand.

Sure I can go down in caliber, go to rifle, but I do love my 1911's.

Anyone else have the sore firing hand syndrome and what do you do about it? Epsom Salt?

Or do I admit how old I am and accept it as arthritis? Good God I used to able to tear the top off a new mayo jar now I have to ask my wife to do it.

    Thanks Fellas. Cadiz

    9mm 1911. Yeah, it's 9mm, but it's still a 1911.

My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

+1 a 1911 in 9mm or 38 super might be just the thing.

I shot one in 38 super and it was pretty freakin sweet.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Get a Marvel 22lr conversion and enjoy VERY accuarte shooting using the same grip orientation and pellet gun level recoil.

            Don't use a death-grip. Firm, yes. Death-grip, no.

I used to shoot 3 evenings a week, I had to lay off after I was forced to see a hand surgeon.

Rest, cortisone injections, and squeezing a handball has brought it back to normal.

I shoot once a week now... And I avoid magnum calibers. 9 mm & .38's mostly...

Of course I do squeeze a few larger calibers from time to time...

If you are shooting using an Isosceles position, try a Weaver or Modified Weaver stance. The grip is very different, and either one puts MUCH less stress on your hands.
In the Isosceles stance, you are using your hands to squeeze the pistol on the sides, whereas with the Weaver stance, you are using your hands to put tension on the front & back of the pistol grips.
                  Worth a try, anyway.

just say it... it wasn't shooting ... was it.

just a wee bit of rest and switch to 8mm or .45 super. You hand will be alight. Maybe a case of carpal tunnel or in this case cartirdge tunnel....
Sure I work on Guns ; 105, 120 and 155mm. There was that 20" though.
